why the knife?

When Yukio killed Ohta why did he have a knife with him? Was he planning on killing Ohta?

To me he came across as psychotic. But I might be wrong.
Either that or he snapped because everyone was pressuring him to take charge of his life while he didn't want to think about the future.

nephilim, that wasn't REALLY the question. I think you got the answer wrong to that question anyway, here is what I think....
Kuja's Q.- "He probably bought the knife just to give him a sence of power over his own life. He carried it around just to make himself feel better.

Nephilim- The answer to why is given away in the next scene with Yukio. Yukio is screaming about takeing the exams. He wanted to be a good kid and go to college. Ohta was bushing him into a yakuza life with him. He was making Yukio give up on being the "good kid" and be the gangster. Yukio didn't want that to happen. Psychicly he snapped out of fear of being dragged down the wrong path and killed him.

it could also be another reason , because ohta is teaming up with that gangster guy. so he is acting against kujo in a way.
and as soon as ohta talks about taking the turve , the music starts to play, together with the look of yukio.
he decides to kill him , probably because otah is acting against kujo and his friends, but he is also kind of fed up of all the gangster stuff going on,
also he is gone mad abit because he thinks he can just kill otah and then go on taking exams and stuff.

I think he really just snapped, and he never liked him in the first place. If you'll notice at the beginning of the film when everyone is on the roof, Yukio says something like "Do you wanna die?" to Ohta. And remember when he tells the main character that he doesn't like ass-kissers when he sees Ohta with the Yakuza? Basically he just didn't like him, and Yukio had no direction and he just snapped........At least that's how I took it as

Yeah, I agree with you.

I think there are a few reasons, like how Yukio wanted to graduate, and Ota kept bothering him about the yakuza. That, and Yukio just didn't like Ota, and he snapped. One of my favorite scenes in the movie.

I died then I thought of you and came back to life.
How can you think if you're dead?
