so, he did have a terminal illness?
I could never figure out why he always slept in class then ran home.
maybe I just need to watch it again.

Yeah he did. If I remember correctly Kujo and Aoki mention it when they're on the roof and see him run away.

I beleive the cherryflowers in the classroom at the end of the movie are for him, indicating that he did indeed pass away.

Why did he keep on going to school? Not exactly the best way to spend your last days.

In Japan education is very important. Schools are very important. I guess to him, it just seemed like it was the right thing to do.

i'm confused. was ghost also the guy who always stood near the cherry tree and put the caterpillars in the ground?

I think so. It would make a lot of sense that way, if it were true.

Yeah it's pretty tragic... Ghost was pretty cool, then he just dies. So much senseless violence in this film, but it's just how it works in that school. Brilliant film.
