Bart and BC plot hole (spoilers)

Bart Garsus is a member of a society (Tarak) that has only men and no women at all, a society where the men reproduce artificially. (There's a throwaway line early in the series where one Tarakian guy says to another, "Wanna make a baby?") During his time on the Nirvana, Bart becomes very enamored of Buzam A. Calessa (BC), and basically asks "her" out a couple of times, and is gently rebuffed. Later, he's shocked when he discovers "she" is a he. Wouldn't this be a plot hole, considering Bart and BC are members of a world where same-sex romance is the norm?

You assume Bart does not make future advances based upon what he knows.

Perhaps not ... perhaps so.

My thought on this is that it's not really about him being a guy at this point, but that he's an intelligence officer for Tarak, a spy on board the Nirvana. His loyalty is assumed to be strictly for Tarak, as he wasn't known to be a guy until just now and didn't have to do an 'enemy mine' scenario. So his dilemma is 'What is Tenmei going to do with this information'. Bart had occasionally been trying to bridge the gap between himself and the females on the bridge. He had made a few passes at BC, but none so blatant as the most recent one. He has basically just announced to Tarak intelligence that he no longer sees Women as the enemy and may possibly be a traitor. Plus, he just got used to the fact that men and women used to get along fine all the time, living together and having families. He's basically gender confused and this new flip just confused the young man even more. Remember, the guys still just a teenager. He's gone through several traumatic events and this one just kinda tipped the scale a little. In episode 24 he announces to Tenmei that his feelings haven't changed and that he had fallen in love with him [i[]despite[/i] him being a woman.
