Question about the Ending

When the second part of this miniseries was on, I was at dinner with my family. So I taped it, but my tape ran out right at the very end. I probobly missed only one or two minutes, but the last thing I saw was Shane sitting on the ground starting to beat his drum. Did the series just end with him sitting by the tree, or did it show anything else?

He was getting ready to start storytelling, the way the stories were told to him. Taking over for grandpa! Awesome, Awesome film!

Yes, he started beating on the drum to announce the beginning of a storytelling session. Children flocked around him, sat down on the grounds surrounding him and he started telling a story...he was happy, smiling beautifully, obviously happy and focused...I think it was about "Eagle Boy"...to the rapt attention of all who listened.....THE END.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

I have a question too, did Grandpa die without knowing that anyone would carry on his traditions and stories? Or did he somehow 'know' that his grandson would honor their traditions and not let them die with Grandpa? I think that would be very sad if he died thinking it was all going to be lost with his passing.

He insisted on the slower method of journey, and the round-trip.
