25% on Metacritic? I just don't get it.

Was this the greatest mob movie of all time? Nope. Was it the most original? Hell no? Was it an effective little movie? Absolutely. An effective albiet three act structure, decent dialog and solid direction... And, it's a low budget movie with mostly unknowns. So what's up with all the critical pans? In a world where critics gave unanimous praise to Blair Witch Project and Open Water, that's a little perplexing to me. Granted, Wannabes had a discernably bigger budget. It's no reason to be mercilessly harder on this movie than critics were on Blair Witch and Open Water... I'd go as far to say, Wannabes was the first direct to video movie, I thought was actually good. I applaud all involved.

I agree with you Billy. The problem is there is alot of haters out there. People should know how tough it is to make a film. It's very hard to please everyone. All you can do is give it your all. God bless you pal.

This movie is horrible. Me and my friend watched it last night and made fun of it the entire way through.

I couldn't wait until it ended.

Bad script with cheesy dialogue, horrible acting and a lame story.

"And you're the *beep* wannabes."

Are you serious with that line?

"WHAT ARE YOU NUTS!?"

reply

Yea it was cool but still really *beep* cheesy at times lol like the whole fishing thing and the inanely slow drive by lol haha I've never seen it dragged out for so long in my life...n that little wop kid who killed his dad had the most annoying face and little head

Just watched this on Netflix. It was really bad. I lol'd so hard at the "and you're the *beep* wannabes" line.

A lot of really bad acting and horrible lines. The main young mobster was OK, but his brother was terrible. The brothers girlfriend was sooooo bad. I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason she was in the movie was because she was banging someone. At one point during the fishing scene she looks directly into the camera, haha! None of the mafia guys were convincing. They all just seemed like they were playing a gangster for goofs.
The story was drawn out, the characters were one dimensional... This should've been a 75 minute movie, tops. Also, Vinnie was annoying as *beep*. He should've been killed in the first 20 minutes. The way he died wasn't satisfying and they ruined it with that cheesy line.

3/10 because I found some parts mildly amusing.
