I flipped through the manga and I am dying to read it. Unfortunately, I had other manga to buy the day I was flipping through it. So, I rented the DVD.

What a mess. A beautiful mess. Eye candy. Worth a rent to see the beautiful eye candy and hear Crispin Freeman overacting on the dub portion. But what a mess.

There are just some things you can't cram into such a small amount of time. Sometimes you can't convey feelings into words. Sometimes there are cultural differences that simply can't cross borders without more experiences to go with it.

The three episode DVD was a mess. It tried to do too much in a short period of time.

I've heard it's not nearly as good as the manga series, but most of the people who said that were reviewing the American version. I haven't seen it but I'd suggest trying to find the Japanese import.

The Angel Sanctuary anime only covers the first storyarc, so it's not as jumbled and rushed as it could have been. (X: The Movie, anyone?) That said, the anime closely follows the manga to a degree, streamlining the story and snipping a few characters but making no huge deviations. One of my gripes was that they cut out Ruri Saiki and the Angel Sanctuary cds, so anyone without knowledge of the manga will have no idea what the title refers to.

It's a pale, pale story compared to the manga. Get it and read it if you know what's good for you. I'm obsessed with Angel Sanctuary - ordered the whole set of original Japanese manga off e-Bay and am now in the process of buying all the English translations as they come out.

I've read all the books that came out in the states so far...up to book 7. I read the first 5 books before I watched the anime, and I woudl say fo rthe most part its definatley true to the storyline but in no way NEAR as in depth. I first heard about the series, geez maybe 3 years ago or so. I heard about it in an Animerica mag my buddy had. And after reading the three page artcicle, seeing some art work, and thinking it was an awesome plot, I sort of forgot about it until winter '04. I had a dream about reading the mag and begged my friend for the copy. After looking up the publisher and seeing there were six of the twenty books currently out in the US (at the time), I rushed to Barnes and Noble and bought EVERY book. then I read them cover to cover all in a row. You definatley get lost in them. And now that I've bored everyone with my rant, let me make a suggestion. If you haven't read the Manga yet, definatley do so, preferably before you watch the anime. You won't be disapointed

Rogziel - they cut out all the Ruri parts?! That takes up most of the first volume in the manga series.

mmm the OVA is just the introduction..the first arc of the manga :P just for fun... it's better to watch it after you've read the manga :P

I read the manga first and saw the anime later on..
And I think the anime was horrible! It's ugly, the voice actors aren't really that good and the story would seem confusing to those who haven't read the manga. I have a feeling that Kaori Yuki had little or no involvement in this, other than the fact that it's based on her story and she gave permission for it to be made. The drawings of hers in the manga are so much more lovely and captivating than the anime. It's actually one of the worst animated series I've seen, which says a bit.

Do yourselves a favor people, stick to the manga.

The anime tries to tell way too much in 30 min. and fails. So many things were left out, characters and the like. The animation was just awful and don't even get me started on the dubbed version. I was so disappointed after watching the anime. After reading the manga I honestly expected a little more. If I were you, I'd stick to the manga and forget the anime. The manga is so much more entertaining and the art is just...wow, it's unbelievably gorgeous.

The book and the movie are VERY different(as is always the case in anime). The manga is entirely worth reading however, its up to vol 12 in English I do believe and it goes into much much more depth then the OVA had. I high reccomend it.

I think it's best to take Angel Sanctuary OVA and the Angel Sanctuary Manga as two separate entities. I saw the ova first, and read the Manga later and I thought that the OVA was a fitting Introduction to the manga. Yes, the artwork in the Manga is by far superior, but imagine how crowded the Anime would've looked if they'd done that on a tv screen. I don't think Crispin Freeman overacted Rosiel at all, in fact I thought he did quite well.

eh, just my opinion
