Such a great game...


...yet the boards for this are so empty. One director whom I think could really make this game successfully into a movie is David Cronenberg or David Lynch. I say David Cronenberg because one of the themes in this game combining flesh with steel is something Cronenberg did exceptionally in Videodrome. Also like Lynch Cronenberg is brilliant at blurring that line between reality and dreams.

It might be a few months or even years before someone reads this, but who would prefer this to be an exploration in surrealism and the theme of flesh and steel or a Big Blockbuster action/sci-fi movie?
Personally I'd prefer a tripped-out mind bending sci-fi horror.

Any number of directors could make a film that equally combines the themes you mentioned as well as catering for the blockbuster sci-fi movie lovers. Frankly, video game adaptations have not had a good track record as films. Although, this game and say, the upcoming ‘Metal Gear Solid’ film, and a possible film version of ‘Grim Fandango,’ all have the ability of changing this failing trend of video game adaptations because they come from excellent sources and are all highly acclaimed games throughout the world.

Yes, David Lynch and David Cronenberg are good choices. My personal pick is Paul Verhoeven, because he combined ultra violence, political satire and social commentary with 'Robocop.' Christopher Nolan would also be good for the dark edge he adds to his films. Even Francis Ford Coppola could turn this into another masterpiece. The film would be ruined if Wes Craven or John Carpenter got the gig. I'm a bit iffy about Steven Speilberg too, but he has his moments.

I'm actually playing the game for the first time at the moment - I've just arrived on the Rickenbacker - this proves how immersive and thrilling the game is considering I haven't completed it yet and I already think it’s fantastic. It's like a good book I can't put down until the end. I’ve heard plenty of people saying how scary this game is. Well, personally, it isn't scary at all per se. Eerie is more like it, coupled with the feeling of isolation and disorientation.

Just out of curiosity; when you reach deck 6 for the first time on the way to the bridge, Delacroix sends an email saying she is waiting in Cargo Bay A. Well, I backtracked all the way to the Cargo Bays and couldn’t find her. Is this a hoax or some AI trying to trick me? I thought everyone is dead. I’m wondering if meeting her is important, if she is in fact alive.

Its been a while since I've played it, but Delacroix is dead by the time you reach her. You can find her body in one of the cargo bays hidden amongst some boxes with an Audio disk. Basically she just says she was betrayed by Shodan, and for you not to trust her. Albeit the problem is if you do find her body and play her audio disk, Shodan takes away some of your cyber modules and tells you not to defy her again or something to that effect.
If I remember correctly if you try to head towards Cargo Bay A, Shodan warns you not to go in there.

Paul Verhoeven has got good style although Starship troopers was a little bit of a turd sandwich, but then again the majority of directors have at least a few stinkers to their name. I quite like Chrisopher Nolan's movies

Before I go back to find her, do you remember what section specifically - 1A, 2A, top or bottom floor?

Now I have Captain Diego calling me saying HE'S alive - and supposedly "purged" of the annelid virus. I sense a trap because he sounded very crooked in his previous logs.

Before I get too far into it, do you recommend any specific weaponry, psi configurations and such to prepare for something big I know I'll be facing? Also, what gear should I keep or stock up on? It took me awhile to figure out that any items dropped in elevators stay there and that if I drop stuff in bulkheads, they appear on the other side with me when I go through the door - which is strange, but handy.

Sorry I misinterpreted what you said. If you've gone back to the cargo bays in the engineering deck you've gone too far. Delacroix's body is in the cargo area near the shuttle bay where you have to use the sympathetic resonator to blow it up. I got this from a walkthrough as I couldn't remember where exactly she was:

Buy the Sympathetic Resonator and climb down the ladder and use it on the shield generator and then climb up again real fast...
Once the shuttle is destroyed, the previously inaccessible shuttle bay is opened, since the broken door is blown clear by the explosion. You can go down there and explore (get some goodies, and possibly some new plot insight, but no Cyber Modules) although your guide will instruct you not to.

This is where she is located and shodan will tell you not to enter.

I won't spoil it for you about Diego, but you don't have to worry about him being a boss character if thats what you were worried about.

I usually went for the Navy Character(because of the hacking ability) and I usually carried a wide variety of weaponry. What I didn't bother with was the exotic weaponry and melee weapons. They're a waste of cyber modules and just take up valuable inventory space and if you want to carry them you're gonna have to ditch some other equipment or weapons that is probably far better. Also to use them you have to have a high science skill to first research them before you can use them which means more wasted cyber modules.
My weapons of choice usually were the:
-shotgun
-Assault Rifle (especially the Anti-Personnel Rounds - very good against the many and those giant flesh monsters)
-EMP Rifle (very good against turrets & robots and in the final stages of the game where you have to fight shodan and her cyborg assassins - I won't spoil anymore)
-Grenade Launcher (I didn't use this gun that often, but you can get various types of ammo for it and as I remember there was a fair amount of ammo scattered around for it. It also packs a punch)
-That giant nuclear gun (the one that shoots green orbs - again this wasn't a gun I used that often but it came in handy).

I can't really remember if there was a rocket launcher or not but these are the weapons that I do remember using.
As for psionic abilities, I never really dabbled in them. I did start a psionic character once, but it got too annoying after a while having to constantly activate different abilities. The only psionic ability I found useful was the telekinesis, but all this really did was save me the effort of having to climb up some ledges.

What it really comes down to is what sort of character you've picked and where you've tailored him to. Are you going for the all combat character or a hacker/combat type or a science/psionic type? If you've dabbled in a bit of psionics then you might as well keep going if you've got the cyber modules to spare otherwise I wouldn't bother with it as that psi-amp takes up valuable space.

Honestly, I can't remember what career I picked at the start - a marine I think. I'm pretty cluey about these types of games, so I’m tyring not to create a "Jack of all trades" type of character. I figured most of the psi powers are pretty useless - I only have 2; the "pull" and hacking aide power (can't recall the name). I also figured out hacking is possibly the most important skill in that it helps crack open those crates and reprogram the gun turrets (most of the better goodies are stored in these crates, so high hacking skills ensure plentiful supply of ammo and other stuff - I've never bought anything from the replicators, save for that Sympathetic Resonator thing and rare occasions where software upgrades were available (after hacking for them of course).

I actually used the melee weapons for the first couple of sections of the game until things started shooting back at me. If I can sense them, I usually sneak up behind them or ambush from around a corner and whack them with the crystal rod. Still, I always never have enough ammo, so I make sure not a single shot is wasted, I even restore to a saved game if a particular type of ammo is wasted on a creature that is quite immune to it until I figure out what kills what in preferably 2 shots or less. It IS annoying having to pick up the (always) damaged weapons, unload them and toss them from enemies though.

I’m currently trying to upgrade my exotic skill in order to wield the “worm gun” because I’ve gone to the trouble of collecting the worm ammo for it.

My firearm of choice for much of the game was the pistol, and then I’d use the grenade launcher on the spiders, big robots and black ninja dudes. I’ve only just recently started wielding an assault rifle (always set on single shot mode). Because this is my first play through, I don’t know what to expect in terms of opposition and item and cyber module usage/rationing. Of course, I’ll pick up some tricks and know some short cuts on my next run.

Overall, I’ve ensured ‘repair’, ‘modify’ and ‘maintain’ skills are high to minimize gun degradation. My ‘hacking’, ‘standard’ and ‘strength’ are all max, ‘agility’ and ‘endurance’ are pretty average (not bothering too much about them), ‘psi’ is very low (hardly ever use the powers), ‘research’ is only upgraded when needed (pointless otherwise), ‘energy’ is only high enough to wield the crystal rod, ‘heavy’ needs some upgrading, ‘exotic’ needs to upgrade for the “worm gun” and I’m working on making ‘cyber’ to go as high as it can.

For the “bonus” skills, so far I’ve got ‘sharpshooter’, ‘pack rat’ and ‘lethal weapon.’ I kind of regret picking ‘pack rat’ because I don’t mind storing excess baggage in elevators and bulkheads.

So, I guess I’m focusing on the cyber and technical skills and have met the prerequisites in order to wield the basic, yet effective, weapons I’ve been using since the beginning – plus a bit extra so I can use some of the exotic weapons.

Crikey, when did they start adding game listings? Excellent development, it's interesting to see the voice cast lists.

I replay SS2 about once a year (I tried to get the update patch to work once, and failed miserably, but it's ageing well, so not a great problem).
Agree, would make a fantastic film - Looking Glass studios is much missed, Thief was a top notch game too.
