whispered words

What did they whisper to each other....the part which Evylin said that she meant it....did anyone get what they said?

At first she says something like everything is subjective in a relationship - one could have a great time and feel good even if at the same time his/her partner does not.

I believe that this is an analogy that the author uses to show that Art can never be objective the same way two persons can hold different views and feeling about their relationship. An artwork could be found brilliant by some people and bad/pointless by others. In evelyn's case the artwork is Adam -or her relationship with him- and as she says it was not real for her while it was real for him.

Evelyn says that the only true thing she ever told him was those whispering words. Theres nothing we can hear from the whispering part as her words are not audible at all and therefore the point could not be what she told him but why is kept secret from us. I believe that the point is to show that even if there was an objective side in a relationship/art no one could really find them out. We can guess what was said in that 'secret' dialogue the same way we can guess whether an artwork/relationship is great or not but it is impossible to ever know for sure the truth even if there is one.

Very good point, kipros13, I entirely agree. Objectivity is impossible, hence, they put the spectator in the same position as Adam: there's no way to find out.

Considering that those whispered words are supposedly the one only true thing...how do we know that? True, from which point of view? True for who?

The subjectivity issue this film stirs up goes as far as one chooses for it to (thus, proving the point). I personally was left with a feeling that there's a similar game going on between the film-makers and the viewers, and that our interpretation of the film itself is no different from the subjective perspective we live our lives through. Is anything real? Is there actually anything objective?
