The "documentary" IS the movie!

I think you all missed the point...the whole documentary is a satire; think "This is Spinal Tap"! Gilliam and Company have pulled a fast one on all of you!

reply

That would have been funny! :)

I think Gilliam is crazy enough to do something like that. But I seriously doubt it :)

reply

Ehm... I somehow doubt that.

I have to say this though: if you are right - and I don't buy for a second that this is the case - but if you are right, and this really is a mockumentary... then this is the best *beep* prank ever.

"And let's face it, Johnny Depp could make a nap interesting to watch." - David Koepp.

You're a real fool. If this was a "mockumentary", then it was the least interesting and least funny mockumentary of all time. What was it mocking? What is the joke? IN order to be satire, you must be satirizing something.

Get a clue.

P.S. You're stupid.

nice touch, wentz.

Realism in cinema.

reply

That would have been a stroke of genius. ;P

reply

That's exactly what I thought upon watching this the first time. I am telling you, you were all dupt if you think this is real.

reply

I worked on this movie. It's not a mockumentary. It's for real.

reply

So, Jean Rochefort's doctors were in on the joke too. Oh those nutty, silly physicians!

reply

No, it is not a mockumentary. If it were those guys who aren´t actors would be the best actors i´ve ever seen. I´m from Spain, and back then I heard about Gilliam shooting The man who killed Don Quixote here. Apart from the fact that Gilliam has talked about making the film for years, you mean he was preparing all of us for a joke for a decade??
Anyway everywhere it is announced as a real documentary, and everybody has treated it like it, even the people from the media. Don´t you think in this time someone would have already said it was all fake?

reply

nah - i dont think so. gilliams been tryin to get the movie off the ground for over decade. and when it was announced that the plug was gonna be pulled, he looked heart-broken.

"All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

reply

you're the dupe for thinking that it's a mockumentary. There's been talks to finish the movie for years.

reply

... 'Twas more interesting than Spinal Tap to sit through, though...

I don't pretend to know what you want, but I offer love...

It's not a satire. It's a straightforward reflection on the challenges faced by creative filmmakers, idealistic quixotic figures who face insumountable obstacles in realizing their visions because the industry is driven by financial and insurance interests. Of course it started out as just another "Making of..." I hope we'll see part two one day: the real Making of Lost in La Mancha. Which brings me to the same question I asked on another thread: what is this Lost in La Mancha slated for 2010 all about?
