What a sad ending!

Anyone else got a bit depressed after watching the ending of this amazing movie?

I sure as hell did, it was so powerful, yet very saddening; I felt so bad for the mother. Terrific Asian horror flick, one of the greatest ghost stories ever made IMO.

it has an ending which gives audiences goose bumps and it is an emotional kind of movie. The mother, you actually feel sad and sorry for her strive to battle and protect her daughter from custody and the ghost till the ultimate sacrifice. yes this movie saddened me it made me deppressed for many days and it still brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat.

It didn't make sense to me. If I were Yoshimi, I would have never left my little Ikuko. The shot with her laying on the floor in a puddle while her mother rides up the elevator with the zombie kid was heartbreaking. I just don't like to see kids cry...

Maybe it will make sense to me after I've had a chance to mull over it for a couple of days.

Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space 'cos its bugger all down here on Earth.

I thought this film was so sad when the daughter is shouting for her mum and her mum goes off in the lift (elevator to those not from England :P), that really got me, and I rarely get emotional watching films etc!

Yeah I thought this was a really sad film, I'm glad so many other people agree XD But not just the ending, while watching the entire movie I thought the relationship between mother and child was quite touching :3

imo this was a very, very good film. Loved it. As a horror I think it is quite weak, and the whole "scary little Japanese girl" cliché is definitely a downside, but really I thought the story + characters stood alone very strongly, and it was very different to Ringu and Premoniton so I still liked it anyway even if it wasn't scary or all that original :)

8/10

This movie is in my top 10 as well, and the ending is one of my favorite film endings. Hard to think about it without getting choked up, even harder to watch without getting choked up.

The heart has its reasons, which reason knows nothing of.

I agree, I felt so sorry for the little girl crying for her Mum.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous....

It was very sad because it looked like Ikuko thought Yoshimi was rejecting her.

It was sad, but as I commented on another thread, it's nice for 16 year old Ikuko to realise that her mum has still been looking out for her over the years and that she had the opportunity to say goodbye once more.

People rarely ever get that second chance. I really liked the ending and whilst certainly a little unconventional for a ghost movie...IMO it works.
