VERY Disappointing...

I HATE THIS MOVIE. The jokes AREN'T funny, the animation is grade B, the acting is atrocious...and, when you think about it, the characters aren't very likeable. For starters, Ella is NOT the brightest bulb in the chandelier. In fact, she's downright stupid. Rick is annoyingly cynical, and the assistants are just...there. George Carlin had, like, two lines (and they weren't even that great), but he was made out to be one of the main characters. Sigourney Weaver sounds bored as Frieda. Seriously, this is one of the worst movies I've EVER seen. Don't waste your time.

reply

agreed. completely. the most amusing part of the movie was Andy Dick as the prince, and he didn't even get much of a role..

other than that, the moving was godaweful. apart from the less-than-childish humor, the plot didn't seem to ever go anywhere. the story was stupid, the characters were all one-dimensional, and the animation was abyssmal. the animation was so poor, i felt like i was watching beta test for Shrek...

I don't even see how they got this movie on the big screen, let alone got the well-known actors to do the voices.

like you, i was so dissapointed in the movie. i thought it would be something cute and funny and a bit of satire.. but alas. it's so much to ask, i suppose.

omg and don't even get me started on the whole "cinderella" thing. lol it was just aweful.

reply

jcleveland For your info andy dick didn't play the prince don't know how you got that mixed up he played mambo. Maybe thats why you didn't like it cose you got no idea whos who in the movie.
I agree it wasn't what it was cracked up to be. Sarah michelle gellar should no have been ella. the whole time i was just sitting there going her voice does not suit the character. but all in all it was a nice family movie.
You are intitled to your opinion but remember its meant to be a kids movie so don't expect it to have a complex plot. Its simple and funny. Not roll around on the floor funny no but its got some laughs. give the movie a break.

reply

Excuse me for bargin in, but how's it relevant for the movie's appreciation to know the name of the performers involved?

reply

Oh, come on! It wasn't THAT bad! There were some jokes that was ACTUALLY funny. Do people hate it because it gave a Fight Club homage? It wasn't all kiddy and cutesy.

reply

The reason people hate this movie is because it was a terrible movie. The first two posters were totally right about everything, well except the part about Andy Dick playing the prince, he played one of the assistants and Patrick Wharburton played the prince. Anyway, it was boring, had a predictable plot, and none of the jokes were really funny because they were jokes. They were funny because of how bad they were.

ok... look at your reasons for this movie being bad in your eyes... "it was boring, had a predictable plot, and none of the jokes were really funny because they were jokes. They were funny because of how bad they were."

You do realize that this was made for little kids right? and not only that it was based on fairy tales... Yes it was rather boring and the plot was predictable... Only because it was a fairy tale... you go read Jack and the Beanstalk and tell me it isnt boring... You go read Cinderella and tell me it isnt predictable... You should have know what this movie was going to be like before ever sitting down to watch it... I think the problem every one has with this is that some where in thier minds they some how thought this was going to be like a parody... kinda the way the scary movie series is... and well it wasnt... It was made for little kids to find cute and some what entertaining... parents will buy the DVD and kids will watch it a million times cause to little kids it was funny. ANd that brings up the bad jokes... well I just explained that... the jokes were for little kids... not the older crowd... A lot of kids movies and shows nowdays will throw in something for the older crowd who are kinda forced into watching it... Disney is big on this... Putting in things that will go over a small childs head but the parents will notice and kinda smile about... big example is in Lion King... during Scar's song.... Notice when the Hyenas are marching and singing and Scar is standing over them on the platform... It was a nod to Hitler and the Nazis... That went over kids heads but older people should have noticed...

Anyway... yes this was a boring movie... if you are ver like 12.... other than that this was a cute kid movie...

reply

Yeah, I guess if I was a kid I might like this movie, I just think that they could have put in some more adult jokes. But then, there aren't many movies that are made just for kids any more are there? Movies that are made for kids sometimes have way to many adult jokes these days. So, I guess this is a nice "just for kids" type of movie.

Although, I gotta say that I DO go back and read the old fairy tales now and then, and they never really get boring for me, so whatever...

can this movie go any SLOWER???

reply

yeah, my sister and i made it through the first twenty minutes and turned it off because it was so incredibly stupid. everytime they tried to make a joke, my sis and i would look at each other and say, "Was that supposed to be funny?" i mean, it's like they didn't even try. especially the actors. i have seen all of these actors in movies before and they are decent if not excellent actors. so either they're just really bad at voiceover work or they weren't event trying beacuse they were AWFUL in this movie. it was all cheezy and corny. oh, and by the way, to those people who are defending it because it was "meant for little kids," just look at Cars, Finding Nemo, Toy Story, The Incredibles, Shrek, and Monsters Inc. Those movies were all meant for kids and they were hilarious for adults as well. They actually put effort into making those movies funny for adults and kids alike.

"Me? I'm dishonest. And you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly!"

reply

I stand by my opinion saying it was actually funnier than most kiddy like films. I thought that it was an hour too long but gave it a decent rating because it was sweet and funny. Yeah, it was predictable, but aren't all Hollywood movies are?

reply

You took the words right out of my mouth... this movie was very boring and slow, and the jokes weren't funny at all. I dont understand how some people can say its hilarious..

reply

What also doesn't help, Prince Charming is recycled Mr. Incredible, the Rumpelstiltskin's baby is a recycled baby of the Incredibles .. yaawn. And to make it worse, it isn't even funny .. Poor attempt to cashcow old movies, trying to immitate little red riding hood I assume ..

reply

The most likeable guy was the Prince and they kept trying to paint him as a jerk.

Rick was a goddamn Jerka$$, so smug about how he was better then the prince and Ella was stupid for not noticing how much better he was.

Ella got on my nerves, not as much as the assistants.

I kind of rooted for Frieda cause I never liked any one else.

I actually found myself despising this film, which surprised the hell outta me

reply

I agree. Rick was the most unlikeable protagonist I've ever seen. We're supposed to sympathize with this arrogant, holier-than-thou "average joe"? He came off as a self-absorbed creep, devoid of any redeeming features.

I also liked Frieda...actually, that was the only thing I really cared much for. The warthog assistant wasn't bad either, but beyond that the writing was weak and pacing glacially slow.

It seems like computer-animated movies with "celebrity" voices are becoming far too oversaturated these days. Stooping to casting Andy Dick as one of them should have tipped me off right away!

reply

I agree with all previous comments, but for me, the biggest problem with this movie was the audio.

Maybe you have to be a sound engineer like myself to notice, but it was ATROCIOUS. The voices were not compressed well, and the highs were a bit muted. It made the whole thing hard to listen to, and a bit boring.

Additionally, as other have said, some of the big-name talent sounded asleep. I was absolutely shocked to find out George Carlin was the narrator. the man got old. -And Sigourney Weaver probably LITERALLY phoned it it.

Add to that a terrible script, and well .....

reply

Okay. In expressing my words about this movie, it is terrible, whether the movie script was dimmed down for prepubescent children. To say this movie WAS for children makes you think about other dimmed down movies, like the 3D Barbie Movies. I've been forced to watch those movies because i babysit my younger cousins at times, and if this is what you mean by "Only for Children" movies, then i know where you're coming from. You see, the issue here though, is that such a terrible movie was passed off as a theatrical release when it had no business even being there. The actors/actress voiceovers were cut so raw, that it actually does make Barbie look great, for it only being a DVD collection. Not to mention, I've seen better CGI on a Playstation One, than on this movie.A good story makes a good movie even if it was recycled and well known. This movie though, took all the old bad kids movies from the 80s and 90s, and pasted them into rediculous stuffed silicon animals/humanoids. Not to mention the jokes they did (or overdid) were so old that it reminded me of myself being a kid and how lame many 80s cartoon movies were.It was a cookie cutter "Only for kids" movie,it was a shameful waste of time, and an easy way to target families so the film makers can laugh their way onto the bank.(Thank god i only netflixed it)

Thank You, because the only thing worth it about this movie, is it gives you the desire to burn all the rentals of this movie, so future generations won't have to sit through this yawn-inducing movie.

I found Ella very unattractive, she looked like a boy in a dress, she should've been pretty with long hair instead of that boy haircut and the prince was big, goofy and stupid. Even though I didn't care for Rick, I would've liked him better as the prince instead of playing a servant and I thought he looked better than that big goon as well. The movie was also too gothic looking.
