Worst Movie in the last ten years according to RT

Yup
Haven't seen it yet... and I really have no desire to do so...

"Geez, she fell funny!" - Frank Costello (The Departed)
Y SO SIRIUS?

(EDIT: 10 years, yea ._.)

reply

Not ever. Just of the last 10 years.

reply

Really the fact that its the worst in the last decade makes me wanna see it, just to see if they're right.

reply

I've seen it and it still doesn't occur to me why they chose it to be #1.
The movie was pretty bad, but it still had some decent action if I remember correctly.
Many of the movies in that top were a lot more deserving for this spot in the top.
Maybe they just wanted to make a point that stars don't make a movie.

reply

Any movie with Lucy Liu can't be all bad! (Actually, I do recall this was pretty lame.)

reply

It wasn't the best movie, but certainly not the worst. I want to smoke whatever they have on RT.

"Does it look like I give a damn?" - James Bond

reply

Well they were going by their rankings. This movie was one of the several who had a 0 rating and they put it on top.

reply

I think it's deserved, true you could have a lot other movies in that spot and they would deserve it as well but this one is as good as any, and to get 0% good reviews in rottentomatos you really need to do something special, even carrot top movies get some positive reviews..

I'm the guy who makes the "worst movie ever" thread in your favorite movie board

reply

I've seen worse....in fact, the worst movie I've ever seen isn't even on their list. I do believe it came out in the last 10 years, too.

Poor people are crazy, Jack. I'm eccentric.

reply

Of the 100 movies on the list, this is the only one I have seen. I wouldn't consider it the worst movie I've seen in the last decade. It was unmemorable with a plot that didn't make sense but slick enough and with enough action to rate about 3 stars out of ten.

reply

I think I can justify this getting #1.

Sure, there are movies with worse plots, hammy acting, terrible effects, etc. We usually set the bar a little lower for low-budget or schlock movies, and we toss films a few bones for what DID work if they were enthusiastic and clearly giving it their best. Their sad, sad best.

But nothing in this movie worked. It didn't even fail to work in a "so bad it's good" way. It just died of boredom.

There's nothing original about the plot or the characters, but that's OK in an action movie--they get away with no plot by hiding it behind awesome action sequences, and with meh characters by cheesing up dialogue and hamming up performances.

But the action sequences here made both actors look old and tired and sorry they signed on for an action movie rather than, say, a rom-com. The talky sequences were no better, with bored-sounding characters mumbling their way through boring dialogue like nothing happening was of much interest (and it wasn't, but you don't want the script to call attention to that).

It was as if everyone involved had decided this was just a paycheck, but they weren't getting paid enough to be interested in their own movie. Even the score/soundtrack seems randomly selected.

Universally bad action suggests a director who doesn't know how to work angles, cutaways and other tricks to hide the fact that the actors aren't really super-agent/assassins. Universally flat acting suggests a director who doesn't know the difference between deadface and serious dramaface. It would be so easy to believe that Kaosayananda is just a hack who got lucky and blew it.

But mentally recast this with unknown actors, and picture it in Thai or Chinese with English subtitles, and it comes together better (at least, in my head).

I think that's the heart of the problem: you can't simply transplant another culture's movies, lock, stock and barrel, into your own without addressing certain cultural differences. For example, the cadences of speech are different and emotive expectations are different, so Asian action movie's serious delivery is American action movie's 'too botoxed and sedated for this film'. Our expectations for action are different--Asian films show blow-by-blow action, American films show the illusion of a flurry of fighting.

But now I'm just rambling...

Ballistic isn't the worst film ever. I liked for what it is and I thought Kaos did an okay job in this film however the problem with the film is the screenplay. Of course, it's an obvious one... I would blame on Alan McElroy.

And here's the news...Wych Kaosayananda has gone back to Thailand and made a new film...10 years since he last made a film. It is called Angels and it looks good. It has some familiaries of his first effort in Fah. Here's the trailer of his new film:

I'd rather watch Ballistic instead of Wanted (2008).

Wanted was a geek fever dream, that was the STUPIDEST movie I've ever seen. I actually was looking to leave the theatre TWICE! But my buddy that took me to see it, told me to stay.

What I wanted, honestly was my money back. And I've seen movies like Highlander 2 in the theatre.....

Frankly, I've never paid much attention to, and certainly wouldn't base my own personal opinion on, a website named for something commonly thrown at the stage by people with all the class and refinement of monkeys in the zoo. (Yes, I am referring to rotten tomatoes)

I enjoy watching this movie, and I do so fairly regularly - in fact I'm watching it right now. It has some decent action scenes, and with Lucy Liu, Antonio Banderas, and Ray Park being the three people you see on screen the most, the acting is pretty good, even if the story is a bit lacking in spots.

Sure, there are things that kind of make you scratch your head - like the street fight scene at the very beginning, when the lead car in the caravan gets blown up, so naturally everyone else stops their cars and GETS OUT... on a deserted street, in the middle of the night, with no idea whatsoever who or what they're up against... guys who are supposed to be these highly trained agents, doing quite possibly the stupidest thing you can do in that situation. But it makes an opening for lots of people to get beat up, so it's not all bad.

Personally, and without thinking about it too deep, I'd give this a 7/10 - maybe even 8. The action is good, the acting is good, the pyrotechnics are good, and the soundtrack is good. The story is a little weak, but it works itself out by the end. It could use some more back-story on the connection between some of the characters, but overall does a decent job of weaving the past in using a few flashbacks. I've seen other movies that go way too far with the flashbacks, but this one isn't bad.
