Best part of the movie was...*SPOILERS*

When the brother got killed. This was a great film and well done, but the brother was quite possibly one of the most annoying characters ever on film. I've never seen such a bad attempt at an actor trying to pretend to be "cool."

Other than that, great little movie. Don't know why there is even a debate about what happened, because it's pretty %*^$ing obvious they were all in a purgatory state and only the daughter came out of it. It's the same plot as Dead Man, Jacob's Ladder, Triangle, and Carnival of Souls. For those who know the plot, don't even bother debating it with those who are claiming it was a dream or some other bs, it's a waste of your time. Sometimes people just want to debate a movie beyond the director's intention, and there is nothing more annoying than that. If a director leaves an ending open then it's totally great to debate it, but when a plot is as clear cut as this one, and the director's even state on the commentary what the plot is about it's crazy that people want to say otherwise. That would be like telling Da Vinci his Mona Lisa is actually a man. When the artist themself spells it out for you, don't be a jackass and try and tell them different, it's their work for $)(%'s sake. Anyway, great movie, and did something new and original with the whole purgatory plot device.

I enjoyed this movie actually, but agree with you that the brother was incredibly annoying.
He definitely deserved to die....not necessarily for being an annoying dousche, but because who the hell goes into the forest by yourself when your family is lost on a deserted road, your sister's boyfriend died and he just smokes a joint and puts on headphones by himself in the forest?? That's just a beacon in horror movies for, "Kill me now!".

I really hated how the brother was written and acted, to me it felt like the writers didn't know how to write a modern day teenager, so they went with the douchiest stereo type they could find.

And his death scene has made me never want to bite anyone's lips again. Gah, stuff like that only freaks me out.

reply

I agree. They just made him a total caricature. He was the stereotypical pot smoking teenage douche.

reply

Wtf. Why give away the ending to other films? You should give a warning you're revealing spoilers for other films.

reply

What the hell are you talking about? Giving away the ending to other films? Go watch those movies and you'll see I didn't give away much at all. I used the term "purgatory films" to mean ones that explore spirituality. All of those films have different endings, so I didn't spoil anything. Not to mention if I'm spoiling a film for you like Jacob's Ladder from 1990 or Dead man from 1995 I don't feel bad because I've seen tons of people discuss those films and not care about spoilers. Those movies are super old, sorry I assume most people have seen them at this point. Sorry, if you think I gave anything away, but trust me I didn't.

reply

You said those films have the same plot as Dead End which is at odds with your comment that you didn't give away any spoilers. And that's a poor excuse for giving away spoilers, that others have done so. Please be a bit more mindful of others who haven't seen those films even if they're fairly old.

reply

Nah I don't think so. I fully expect when I go on IMDB boards if I'm wading into a thread that discusses the ending of a movie that there might be comparisons and spoilers. I don't even touch a topic that has the word spoilers in it if I haven't seen it, and as soon as I start to see someone discuss another movie I check out. It's not like the topic was about characters etc. I don't have to do your brain's work for you. If you saw discussion of a film you haven't seen you could just ignore it and move on. It's the 21st century, if the biggest problem in your day is a spoiler for two films that are around 20 years old each, you've got it pretty good.

reply

Dude, just admit that you're in the wrong. Are you always like this in real life? The type of person that never takes responsibility for your own actions? You're more annoying than the brother in this movie and YES, you DID spoil several movies (and their age is IRRELEVANT) by lumping them in with this movie as having similar plots.

reply

*beep* off.

So, 1990 and 1995 is super old? You must be a teenager, or your very early 20's.

reply

That means they did a good job bc he was meant to be annoying and a douchebag.
