Great movie but.....
....why make a film about a bunch of people that didn't exist? Why not tell the real story? Use the real names? I think that would make a much more interesting story.

shareBecause it's not a documentary, it's an exploration of the atmosphere, the feeling & hopes, of that moment in time. The writer/director creates specific characters to provide a cross-section of American society in 1968. It was an artistic choice.
Besides, the actual people might not have wanted their names or stories to be used.
It just seems odd to create a film about an event and a person that actually existed, and not tell the real story. Especially someone as iconic as Bobby Kennedy. The story of Bobby Kennedy's campaign days and assassination still has not received proper cinematic treatment.
shareI agree, such a film would be fascinating. But this isn't that film. It's not about Bobby Kennedy or his campaign, so much as it's about the man & what he represented meant to a great many people, and how his death shattered their hopes for a better America. It's not about the man, it's about his symbolic meaning. Or so it seems to me.
shareI agree. Good movie but except for Kennedy none of the characters are real!!! What a cop out. Can't he do research of real people who was there?
shareHe wasn't making a documentary, he was making a film about the spirit of a time & the symbolic meaning of Bobby Kennedy. The fictional characters are a good cross-section of America at the time, which is the point.
