DVD

I'v searched for a copy of this on DVD. Anyone find it?

reply

Hey wildyokel.
The BBC told me that they have no plans to release it as of yet and certainly not in the US.
I do hear it's available on audio, though, according to my friends "across the pond".
I would just like to see it at this point. Have you seen it?

reply

Thx for the reply patton.

No, I haven't seen it yet and I'm actually just looking for a nicely done version of one of my favorite novels. I'm surprised there is not an easily accesible production of it out there somewhere. :(

Searched Crime and Punishment DVD on Ebay

and I just saw that there were two copies being sold on Ebay:

Hope this helps. I recommend the 1969 Russian Edition, it is the best one to watch.

I saw this when first out on TV and thought it was excellent. I can't find a DVD of this version though.
The BBC had quite a fanfare of this, and obviously spent a lot of money on it, so I'm surprised it's not being released. There are plans for a lot of BBC content to be available online soon, maybe this will be the sort of thing you can access.

Agree, it was excellent. The BBC can produce wonderful adaptations of classics etc yet they are really hopeless at follow ups like repeats and/or dvds. And as for getting in touch with them, well, I've done so, in writing as well as email and telephone but they have never EVER replied. As far as I can remember, this version of 'Crime and Punishment' hasn't been repeated and it would be lovely to see something of this calibre shown on the new 'Drama' channel instead of endless repeats of 'Birds of A Feather', 'Last of the Summer Wine' etc (since when did they count as drama?) I have for years also been trying to get some response from the BBC regarding a wonderful series called 'The Love School' about the lives of the Pre-Raphaelites starring Peter Egan and Ben Kingsley. But again, no luck, and not available anywhere on DVD sadly. The BBC are pretty notorious for destroying old films and have got rid of many classics.

Thanks for the help everyone. I may consider those Ebay auctions for now but I'll keep looking. Anyone seen the Ben Kinglsey/Patrick Dempsey version?

reply

ehh! I just read a pretty dismal review of that adaption of C&P. The search continues.

alright, I've just seen this movie a couple days ago, here in Canada on CBC 12:00am. It finished at 1am so it's about an hour. Now this is a movie right? I've never heard of the book before I saw this, and the ending of the movie made me think it was a tv show. It was still really good from start to finish. The ending though was very confusing for me with the guy saing "You're a murderer."

Hope anyone who reads this has seen the flick, but that one line isn't much of a spoiler right?

Anyway, I'd love to get my hands on a dvd. So ya, a search is great.

It's two hours long so you missed the second half.
