view on bootleg copies in u.s.a.

i just got my copy in the mail. i was told by seller that it was v.h.s. from spain release..cover in spanish at least but movie in english with no spanish editing...
let me just say..WOW...what a great film..
i have loved greenaway since the early '90s and have waited years to see this
but was unhappy to see that the copy i bought was a dub made in the u.s.
does greenaway have any views on bootleg copies in the u.s. due to it not being
out yet in the u.s.
anyway...just wondering..

There is a Spanish DVD release, anamorphic widescreen and so forth, menus are in spanish but you can figure things out pretty easily. Subs are not forced. You can order it from an online seller in the U.S. at www.xploitedcinema.com . You'll need a DVD player that can play films from all regions and convert from PAL to NTSC, of which there are many at affordable prices. I suggest going to www.videohelp.com and checking out their list of players. I personally own the Philips DVP642 and Toshiba SD4900 and both work well. While I'm at it, I might as well mention the fantastic DVD releases of Greenaway's short films plus The Falls in region 2, as well as better copies (with commentary and deleted scenes) of The Draughtsman's Contract and A Zed and Two Noughts. Those are available from xploitedcinema as well as Amazon.co.uk and so forth. Good luck!

If I buy a DVD player that supports the format, will the movie play on a regular American TV set? Kevin

reply

Yes, but make sure it is all regions, or region-free, and that it can adapt to a PAL or NTSC signal.

They stopped carrying it at Xploited Cinema for whatever reason. I'd guess that it went out of print.

It's back in print now seemingly. I purchased it earlier today. I loved it when I saw the 3 Tulse Luper films at the Cambridge Film Festival a year or two ago. Greenaway on good form

Where did you order your copy from poissonsoluble? i'm both a Greenaway fan and Jordi Molla is in it.. what does he play. .like some weird doctor or something. I've been waiting like 3 years now to get to see this film...
It's hard to find Greenaway films anyway.. It seems the video stores used to carry him, but now, i'm not so sure.. I will go see if they might have a copy at the independent video film store..
Is that special DVD player very expensive or is it something you might be able to purchase at say.. Target or Walmart? I need a DVD player.. just would like to get one that plays the foreign films i liked, like this one.
Thanks for the info.... Greenaway rocks! Did you see Pillow Book?
