wonderful surprise

Why is this movie not better known or more appreciated? Excellent plot, nice twist, wonderful atmosphere, great performance by James Spader (a thinking man's hero, this part fits him like a glove), smart supporting cast, and a wonderful comic turn by John Livingston as the FBI rookie. I just can't get enough of this movie.

I totally agree with you on this one!
I am a MASSIVE fan of James Spader and obviously bought this film for my ever expanding collection.
But i was very pleasantly surprised by the story and twist and the acting was great even humorous moments were readily accepted! I didn't know what to expect from this movie, only interested in it because of James, but i would recommend this to everyone who likes a bit of action, humour and an easy to get into story line!

Well done to all involved in its making.

Yes. My expectations were low to begin with, as I am not a fan of car chases or things with guns or bank robberies. However, I really liked it and was sorry that it finished. Amazon.co.uk were good enough to print my review, bless their little cotton socks. I gave it 5 out of 5. The first reviewer had given it 3 and the second gave it 4. So I was able to raise the average from 3 and a half to 4!!!!!!!!
Of course, a fourth reviewer might come along and lower it.

Just saw the movie (huge James Spader fan) and I have to say I loved it as well. Spader was terrific as usual, the plot was engrossing, and the action scenes were pretty tense and exciting. That makes it 2 out of 2 for these Spader/Rowdy Herrington tandems, the other being the very enjoyable Jack's Back.

I think it had a bit of an Elmore Leonard vibe going. I loved it.

Good to see it's still being discovered six years after my original post and ten years after its release. Spread the word.

The Stickup is a very good small budget film. Spader is excellent, as is expected, and the rest of the cast is very good. John Livingston, in particular, was great in his role as a rookie FBI agent getting his first shot at leading an investigation. If you enjoy thrillers, and don't mind somewhat deliberate pacing you will enjoy this flick.
