Soderbergh Doesn't Understand the Original Story

I think Soderbergh completely misunderstood the original movie as well as the source material.

He essentially recreated the first 75% of the original movie. Then just cut to the last scene where he appears home but he is still in the false world.

Complete waste. Soderbergh is good at impersonating a good director.

Well, I've never watched the original, but from what I gather this was not supposed to be like the original, maybe slightly based on it? I don't know. As someone who went into it with very low expectations (I got this in a 4-pack with "Red Planet", "Supernova", and "Event Horizon" and it just so happened this was the last one I watched)

I was very surprised at how great the acting, story, and music were. I generally do not like George Clooney and his face on the cover is the reason I walked right on by this for so many years, but he was dead on in this.

Would you care to explain why, besides just making a blanket statement?

Possibly even less, since the original goes for almost 3 hours and this is barely 90 minutes.🐭

I got the impression he was trying to make it shorter and less oblique ... kind of a Readers Digest version of Solaris.

I really enjoyed both versions, in any event. The remake is one of those films I can watch endlessly with a glass of wine or whatever.
