The premise is George Clooney is sent up to Solaris because he's the most qualified psychiatrist. And then when he goes up, he doesn't "psych" at all. He just falls in the trap. WTF, man, that is dumb.

This is one of the pretending-i'm-so-arty movie by the director. Seriously, Soderberg, do better. Don't be so pretentious.
