It's now 2010...where is the SOLARIS Blu Ray???

I have been waiting and waiting for the blu ray of this movie. It would look and sound so incredible on blu ray. Does anybody know anything about a blu ray release soon?

I've no news unfortunately but having just watched the dvd for about the 6th time I totally agree that a blu-ray version is long over due.
The dvd looks wonderful upscaled but on blu-ray the film would look amazing.

If you look hard enough online (note: Google is your friend) you can find links to the HD version of Solaris that played on UniversalHD. I just watched it tonight and the quality is excellent, on par with the best of the Blu's that have been released, even though this isn't an "official" release. Well worth the effort to seek out!

I was just looking for it on blu-ray I am getting The Fountain and Sunshine on blu-ray and this one would go perfect. But sadly it is not available yet. It is only 4.86 on Walmart.com so i guess I will buy it now and again on blu-ray.

reply

I can't believe it either. Moon is on Blu-ray, but Solaris isn't. And Solaris is by far a better looking film.

reply

The HDTV version does look fantastic. The original Solaris came out on Blu-ray this May, so maybe the remake will be coming sometime soon.

reply

there's a HDTV 720p version floating around which is infinitely superior to the DVD but i have to agree that the BluRay is LONG overdue. i'd snap it up in a heartbeat

reply

Thanks.

The 720p version does indeed look a million times better than the awful DVD.

It's right here. I just ordered one. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Solaris-Blu-ray/20744/

Is this not the discussion for Solaris 2002? I wonder why you posted a link to another film? Yet you responded to this thread. Thanks for that post... sad.

Any update on the 2002 version Bluray?

reply

Not bluray, but you can buy the full 1080p version on Vudu, or trade in your dvd version of Solaris and get it for just $5. Can watch from your PC or Xbox 360

reply

Ya, I want my Bluray!

What the heck is VUDU? You have to watch it on-line?

reply

The Universal HD version is an abomination. SOLARIS was shot with anamorphic lenses. The Universal HD version crops the 2.35:1 aspect ratio down to 1.78:1 and the results is an image that constantly suffers from claustrophobia.

There is a 720p HD torrent out there, but unfortunately it is at 50Hz and as a result, plays at 25 frames per second and not 24. That means the sound is slightly sped up, causing everyone to sound as though they have sucked on helium.

Basically, we are stuck, waiting for this to be released on Blu-Ray. But since it was a box office disaster (undeservedly so) we will be waiting a long long time.

reply

Yes, in the meantime idiotic movies like "The hangover II" and other such filth are rushed onto Blu-ray so the idiot masses can buy them.

When it comes to cerebral films the studios don't really give much of a toss.

reply

To be fair just about every new movie has a Blu-Ray version.

A bear!? You made a bear! Undo it! Undo it!

there is a 1080p version out there that isn't the vudu download-

it is 24fps-

Don't think we'll see a release soon (due to popularity of the movie perhaps).
You should definitaly look for the 720p HDTV release. It's clearly High definition and NOT upscaled. Looks clearly like cristal clear panavision camera in HD.

btw, loved the movie, it has a nice atmosphere and watching for the first time in HD was a delight !

reply

I want the Bluray!

reply

there is a 1080p version too, and a 720p vudu/ web rip-

reply

Really? What is up with the Blu Ray????

reply

I'm growing so annoyed this isn't out. The HD version on cable is cropped and that's a problem because Soderberg utilized the entire widescreen frame. Nearly every scene is cropped.

Meanwhile the 720p HD version people are trading runs at 25fps and so everyone sounds like they are helium.

Enough already. Just release the f---ing thing!

"Solaris.2002.HDTV.1080p.x264-SiSL" looks and sounds superb.

The frame-rate is 23.976

until we get the BLu-Ray, i cannot recommend this version highly enough.
