One terrific and funny movie - great for adults!

It's one of the best adult-focused animated comedies I've seen. I'd recommend it for anyone who enjoys premium animation and take-offs of many older classic movies, especially the "Godfather" series. The scenes and dialog come at you pretty fast and are often hillarious, while the graphics and color are mind-boggling.

With many different strong characters and sub-plots the story may be a bit too complex for most kids and they clearly wouldn't get the older-movie skits. But the colors and animation will make up for it. The voices, with Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Will Smith and the rest all do a great job and added real depth and comedy to their characters.

reply

Ha! The only "depth" this movie has is the water all the characters swim in. What a waste of film.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

reply

I agree. A mostly meh film, pretty yet unoriginal.

that's funny I actually enjoyed Flushed Away. Shark Tale however fails at all points for me.

reply

Yeah, Flushed Away was pretty decent entertainment.

Shark Tale is terrible. Those jokes for adults dont work, they're not funny and no child (which is the target audience) will get them and they're too juivinile and just basic 'name dropping' to be funny to adults either.
It's just simplistic attempts to gain an audience of typical gangster movie fans, which I fall into, and I found them cringe-inducing and annoying.

Secondly, the story is just the basic watered down CGI fest that builds something up, only to drop it all in the last 5 minutes in the end.

Pixar movies make no consents to adult humour, they make movies for families (mainly children) yet they're so good that adults like them aswell.

Good storytelling makes a good movie for the whole family, not continual nudges and winks to adults.

This movie was wank.....simple as

Baron Frankenstein:
"To know death Otto, you have to *beep* life... in the gall bladder!"

reply

Flushed Away was actually CLEVER. This movie was more of the pathetic "nudge nudge wink wink" variety.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

I think you are being too tough on this film. Sure it is no artistic masterpiece but there are plenty of laughs.

HAHAHAHAHA! Man, what a lame studio plug. You are recommending this terrible film for anyone who liked the Godfather series? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! My children have watched this DVD exactly once, and they all hated it. The plot is horrible, the dialog is boring, there is absolutely nothing right about this effort. Which kid is ever going to get jokes based on a parody of a 35-year old R-rated film? The other movie spoofed, Jaws, is also over 30 years old, and how many 6-year olds have seen it? Not a kid in the world will get any of the jokes! Waste of time.

You must be responding to someone else's post. If you read my post title and the post itself, you would have read many times, "for adults" and "too complex for most kids."

Are you on crack?

Great for adults? Funny, my 10 year-old daughter loved it, but I didn't. I got the references to The Godfather, Jaws, Scarface, Goodfellas, etc. And some gags are quite funny but the plot is kinda clichéd and messy. Finally its message, although positive, could have been better developed.
Anyway, perhaps I am asking too much considering what kind of movie is this and which is its main purpose: To entertain the entire family for about 90 min.

reply

Its kinda funny, but that is honestly all that it has going for it. I hate the fact that life under the sea is basically the same as new york, only with bubbles, Why not embrace and take advantage of the fact that it takes place in the water, like Finding Nemo or The little Mermaid, 2 far superior films in every way. I never really got the sense that I was watching a shark tale, it seemed more like a gangster parody with people dressed like cartoony fish (I mean, they're not even based on real fish).
Now, that wouldn't bother me too much if the story and characters actually had heart. They don't. It makes it all the more boring.
This movie basically relies on using big names and referencing gangster films, which is only mildly funny. Scorsese's voiceover was a pretty good choice though.
It really is probably the lamest animated film I have seen since feature length 3D animation came out with toy story, another amazing film.

reply

I saw it with my 5 year old godson and i really enjoyed, as he. Not lot of films, unfortunaly, can be so entertainig for kids as for adults...

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

reply

Of course, we adults enjoy animated movies with lame racist jokes and mediocre hip-hop musical scenes. That's the true Cosa Nostra.

If you want a fun film that spoofs the mob genre check "Jane Austeen's Mafia" It's silly, kinda stupid, but a better film than this waste of money/time.

Give the op a break. He obviously worked on this travesty and is trying to generate some revenue from royalties. With that being said, this is probably the worst big budget animated film I have ever seen. No exaggeration. Dreamworks what has happened to you?
