Gina's hot but she can't Rock

Gina Gershon walks, talks, looks and acts like a rocker, but she just doesn't get it. She doesn't have the moves, the attitude, the vibe or the sound. She comes across like an actress who's only exposure to Rock n' Roll was to watch Joan Jett videos for a week. That's OK because she's a total smokin' hottie and I'm a dude. Loved the lesbo scene. Hit the mute button.

What dictates what a rockers moves, attitudes, and vibe or sound should be?
Elvis was the King of Rock & Roll and his music, if it had come around in todays MTV dominated society, surely it would be laughed at. Even James Brown. Rock & Roll is Rock & Roll any way you slice it.

Yes, Elvis, James Brown & John Lydon can all be put in the same mold. Rockers.

You should be ashamed of these statements, sir. James Brown still does very well with his music and Elvis, well, he's Elvis. He will always be in the spotlight, skinny, fat or dead. I'm not a very big fan of his but if it wasn't for him bringing "black music" onto the white scene in the fifties, there would be no Rock and Roll or MTV.

I'm sorry, but John Lydon is an ego-centric, self promoting, no-talent, drama queen. He does have some minimal acting skills, which was why he was chosen for The Sex Pistols(yes, chosen. The band was put together by a producer). He is a total wanker minimal musical talent and no redeeming personality traits. Have you ever seen an interview with him? I recommend you check one out. He's a neurotic girl.

P.S.
MTV only dominates you if you watch it.

P.P.S
James Brown will be arriving at your house shortly, to kick your ass.

it's an evolution, my dear. it changes. and Gina is allright, but she's not elvis, james brown or, god forbid, john lydon. thanks for the random punk insert. because it was necessary. or not.

Cool...

Hi. Me again. Doesn't anyone have anything about GINA? So... can she ROCK!?

Are you a rock fan or do you keep listening to *beep* on t.v and on radio to say that. She's quite good, I loved each songs she sang and she's got the attitude and the moves.

reply

I totally agree that Gina is sexy and that she should just stick to acting. I mean, I guess it's cool and brave that she allows herself to fail, because, umm, she does as a rocker. Just watch IFC's Rock'd for a few minutes. Now if Drea de Matteo had the lead in Prey for Rock and Roll.... hmmmm. I'd have liked to seen that. Plus, Gina (at least from the IFC show) has that affected Southern Californian drawl that makes certain words linger oh so cooly, you know that emphatic way of saying something like you've popped a few vicodin and you have to take a sh!t. I grew up around that affected LA crap and it used to make me sick, but really it's just f#@king hilarious to hear her do it. Still, she's really sexy and a decent actress, so what more do you want, right? P.S. Lydon is a silly no-talent little girl. Still, he's not as bad as Madonna-but who is?

She's not honest. She has affectation. She does not strive for truth. She's funny that way.

If you saw the IFC documentary ROCKED, I think it's pretty easy to tell that once she got into the swing of the tour Gina really does have the moves and the attitude, and the stuff to back it up. The song the she and Girls Against Boys co-wrote (I think it's called Midnight Girl or at least thet's the refrain) is really top notch. More importantly as I was listening to the soundtrack and watching the movie and wanting the songs and performances to be greater, but loving them just the same, I realized this: If all of those elements were too good why would you believe that she's 40 and debating whether or not to drop the music thing at all? It would be detrimental to the character(s) and you wouldn't be able to connect with them.

You have a point. Posing in front of the movie camera and having to watch your mark and listen to a director etc, is one thing, but playing on stage in front of a crowd is a whole different experience, so I'm sure she was pretty cool in real life. I could see being a Gina boy groupie.

Hmmm...okay, so I am so trying not to say something rude, but dude it's hard when you say something like "loved the lesbo scene. hit the mute button." I'm sorry, but *beep*' look past the fact she's with a girl and that she's a rocker. There is so much more to this story, but I suppouse that takes age to understand and appreciate the story behind the story.
Granted, I won't deny that Gina is incredibly attractive and someone on my to do list.

No kidding, there are people on the Dancing at the Blue Iguana boards that are just like that! Obsessed with the nudity & sex, not the actual storylines. If you're gonna watch a movie for the nudity/sex alone, don't watch this movie, go rent a porn or something.
And Gina is definitely hot. :]

I think that Gina Gershon can sing VERY well & 'Prey for Rock & Roll' is a great movie. Although, I'm biest b/c I'm a GG fan. But anywho, regardless of that, I loved all the songs in the movie & hope to find the soundtrack soon...

I just saw this movie, tonight, on the Sundance Channel. I did see it earlier on DVD, and I remember I didn't like it so much. I liked it much better the second time around, though.
Gina Gershon is a VERY GOOD actress (one of my faves!), and she's one SEXY lady!!!
Did anyone think that her singing in this movie sounded a LOT like Chrissie Hynde, of the
Hall of Fame-bound Pretenders? I did. To me, the best song in the movie was the title track,
"Prey For Rock and Roll." I'd buy the soundtrack, but I watched the end credits closely, and there was no mention of one being available.

reply

The soundtrack is available, just very hard to find. I finally found a copy but I had to special order it, but it was definately worth it. I love every song on it. My favorite song on there is also 'Prey for Rock & Roll'. Gina Gershon is a great singer & actress. My favorite :).

I agree with lackingcolours. I didn't think so much of her until the 2nd time around.

And no matter what you think about Gina and her singing, that song about "every 6 minutes" f@#$ing ROCKED!! Best song of the whole damn movie. Really, really great.

You know I was pleasantly surprised seeing this movie for thefirst time because peole made it out like Gina couldn't hit a note and was totally horrible and since good singing is important to me, I was hesitant to see this movie because I thought it might make me dislike Gina a little bit. I was wrong. She was quite good although she was a little over-the-top sometimes. You have to remember that she and her band aren't even suppost to be that good. I actually really liked her voice except for one thing, she puts too much growl into it a lot. When I first heard her sing I thought she was so-so, and then I got to the part during Faith's funeral when she's singing with the piano and I was very impressed, her voice is strong, clear, controlled, hits all the notes, and is reallynice. The rest of the movie I kept thinking that if she just sang the way her voice naturally goes, it would be much nicer. lthough in some of the songs the growl worked.

I love her singing. I thought she was GREAT. I have some of her songs from the movie on my mp3 and I bought the "Rocked with Gina Gershon" docu of the movie

Shayne, I don't think she's wife material for anyone. Too dangerous. I'd do her in a minute, but she's a total rug muncher.

Nice dress. It would look great on my floor.

reply

Good for me if she was. However, she's straight.

reply

She seemed to enjoy the girl-on-girl love scenes a lot more than the one with the guy. She acted like that one was obligatory, but she was really digging it with women.

Purely a subjective comment. There are plenty plenty folks who consider the Jonas Brothers 'rockers'.

I beg to differ greatly.

Some consider Axl Rose "a rocker".
I call him a tool.

Gina came across with more sincerity that a host of clowns that make the rounds each summer, detuning their guitars to cover up their lack of originality w/ rumbles that make it sound like the band consists of bass players. Not the best thing in the world, AND I'M A BASS PLAYER!

reply

True about the Jonas Bro's, although ten million thirteen-year-old girls seem to disagree with us.

Also true about the "clowns". Have you seen Juliette Lewis? She makes Gina look like a Rock Goddess! What is it with actors who get the Rock bug?
