Is the audio really bad, or did I get a damanged copy?

I was really interested in seeing this, and got the DVD through Netflix. I couldn't watch it for more than five minutes because the audio was horrible. It would be at normal levels for ten seconds, then it would dip to very low levels, then it would be normal for twenty seconds, then low again. The thing is, it never completely bottomed out; it just sounded like it was mixed by someone in Sound Engineering 101.

The disc itself didn't seemed damaged, especially by Netflix standards... there were minor scratches, but nothing that should cause this. Does anyone know if there is a version on the market with really crappy audio?
