How is Brenton Butler doing now?

I did a Google search and all I could find was an arrest in 2004, where he followed a girl to Indiana who wasn't interested in him.

There was a Brenton Butler who played basketball for Fordham University, but it wasn't him.

What is that supposed to mean, "just a matter of time"? Sounds like you're bitter he was found not guilty.

He probably behind bars now, if not just a matter of time

uhh...why?
he had never had any problems with the police, and he didn't commit this murder.

and yet you assume it is just 'a matter of time' before he goes to prison...hell of a life you must lead haha.

his subsequent arrest was for contributing to the delinquincy of a minor - it wasn't unwanted attention from the girl's persepective, but her parents. they were told to stay apart from each other and they were sprung with her hidden crouched down in his back seat. he was 3 years older than her, so he cops the penalty. hardly ted bundy material...

The reality is it probably is a matter of time - check the stats on the 15-30 y.o. black male incarceration rate. Would you like to know the *real* reason the conviction rate is so high? Because as a rule, once the questioning on the scene begins (and especially once the cuffs go on) people can't simply STFU.

Before you're read Miranda, your *entire* duty to the police is to identify yourself. NOTHING MORE. You don't have to tell them where you've been, where you're going, what you're doing or why. If the police have probable cause to arrest you - *they will* Anything you say...let me repeat *Anything* you say CAN and WILL be USED AGAINST YOU. They use the line "help me to help you" or "it'll be easier on you if you tell what really happened" which are flat-out lies (that's right, the police CAN lie to you). They want you to do their investigation for them, because every time they make contact with a citizen, it is to begin or potentially begin an investigation into a crime. That's their job, guys.

The police are humans, and humans by nature are lazy. If your job is to sweep the sidewalk and you can talk the people who litter into sweeping it themselves when they make a mess - you'd do it, right? So do they.

Your job as a law-abiding citizen is to cooperate with the police - not make their case for them. Politely identify yourself. Quickly and calmly produce any required documentation. Then politely ask to be released. If they have any evidence that you've committed a crime (which they won't, because you're a law-abiding citizen), they will either release you, detain you for further investigation or arrest you on suspicion. If you're detained, you can politely ask what the probable cause is for your detention. If you're arrested - STFU and lawyer up - not a word until you have a lawyer present.

It *CAN* happen to you - unless you're an instantly-recognizable celebrity (and maybe even then) so don't take chances - put a zipper on your lip. Can I make that any more clear?

I always comply with police...but luckily, I've never been targeted for anything like what happened in this film.

I've never understood why the Miranda Rights say anything you say "CAN and WILL be used against you in a court of law." If you say your name is X and you live at XX, those things aren't necessarily going to be used against you. Not everything a suspect says gets brought up in court...they don't have time!

Why don't they say anything you say CAN and MAY be used against you?

"reality" and "probably" used together in a statement like this, makes it very vague.
You should never state/guess that someone is/maybe locked up in the future, just based on those statistics. In fact MOST 15 to 30 year old black men do not end up in prison.

Your rant isn't really a rant. Its good information which all people should know.
