No Thanks?

Did anyone else feel hatred towards the family members?
I must have heard a 1000 thank god and jesus lines but not once was there a thanks to the lawyer who did all the freaking work.

You are an idiot. Watch the documentary AGAIN. There are at least FIVE times family members praise the counsel. When your brother was unfairly accused of 1ST degree murder I am sure you held a press conference directly after the verdict praises his lawyers. You must have since you have suggestions on what the family should have done.

There must be an underlining "view" you are trying to infer. SORRY but those days are long over. Bet you feel you lost your rental money because it didnt turn out the way you wanted. SORRY...

Yeah, the OP is a complete moron. Several family members huggers the lawyers and they even left a message on a white board something along "we're proud of you, thanks to the defense", signed the Butler family.

Like timelless said, sounds like someone is pissed the story didn't end the way they were hoping.

i don't want to freak you out or anything, but sometimes things happen...and they aren't caught on camera!!!!!! i know, i know....deep breathing now...

that was actually a message in his office, more likely from colleagues to the lawyers and the family (it said happy thanksgiving to you and to the butler family).
but i think we can safely assume they said thanks...just a hunch haha.

The thing I found odd about the devoutly religious family was they were saying how they knew "god" wouldn't let them down...yet hadn't he already, by getting their kid falsly imprisoned??

That's the strange thing about zealots: They claim "god" can cure you of something, but never stop to think why "god" would have put the sickness there in the first place. It shouldn't so much be "Thank you for curing my mother," it should more be "Thank you for changing your mind and stopping the sickness and pain and expense."

reply

In fairness they didn't ask god to fix this or cure it for them - they asked for guidance and protection.

Most christians know and believe that god doesn't play a hand in everything - such as deciding who would get hit by an earthquake - that is what the wacko's believe.

Wether you believe in God or not, God didn't falsely get the kid imprisoned, that old senile man did. The family just puts faith in god to the lawyer. We can all agree the lawyer mcguiness( which is the coolest lawyer ever )is a great defense attorney and im not saying God made him a badass lawyer but if one believes in god and youre 15 yeard old son is wrongfully accused, you might think God put Mcguiness on the case. You think youre so smart. To be intellectual you must understand all religions from the worst atrocities but also the good examples of one's faith. Yes there's some crazy religious freaks out there but to come on here and the only thing you can talk about is to question one's faith. Grow up. Its as if you feel like God owes you something.

You're comfortable speaking for God? How do you know the whole thing wasn't part of some bigger plan?

reply

Bigger plan? Are you kidding me? Its a bunch of corrupted COPS which make the situation alot worse. These people are praying to God because they feel helpless for their son. I dont speak for no one but myself.

People having faith in an interventionist god just makes no sense. "Praise God! He made the hurricane jump right over me house!" Oh, really?! But he quite happily let it kill your next-door neighbour and his family, without blinking? If he really had any part in it, why would he let the hurricane kill anyone at all?

It's demonstrably bull-twaddle. It's why Jesus, Inc. (the organised church, the biggest marketing company on the planet) had to invent the tenet of "God moves in mysterious ways" (i.e. don't ever expect it to be fair, comprehensible, or even in any way related to your efforts to follow the very rules that Jesus, Inc. claims leads to rewards, grace and favour) and dream up the capital-d Devil, a character straight out of commedia dell'arte, the Darth Vader to Jesus, Inc.'s Obi-wan Kenobi. Sure, God's omnipotent, but ... oh wait, sometimes he's not. Sometimes the Devil, who was tossed out of Heaven for the sin of thinking he could be equal to God, *is* actually equal to God — who knew? — and is actually able to wreck The Plan. And God loves us so much, he lets him, even if that leads to death or eternal damnation. (If you believe the story.)

To me, perhaps the saddest scene in the documentary is when Brenton's parents visit him in jail just after the trial starts. I assume they're trying to comfort him — they seemed like quite genuine people — but they're blethering on about God, and what he's going to do for the kid, and the kid is sitting there looking glum, like he's been beaten into submission by their ranting. And I'm thinking, Just talk to the kid! He wants to know you're there for him, not Jesus, Inc. ... he needs physical, caring parents, not fairy stories.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
