The money was still in the purse...?

So...I realize the film doesn't address exactly how the real crime took place, or who went where afterwards...but I was surprised that the attorney didn't point out that when the purse was recovered on the other side of town, it still had $1,200 in it.

Because not only was it unlikely the teen would have gone all the way over there to discard it, but why would he have left the money in it?

I am sure this point was addressed during the trial but it may not have been shown in the documentary because it didn't really indicate anything. Why was the money left in the bag? Your guess is as good as mine, and is as good as anybodies.
I'm sure the real robber/killer was asked why he left it in the bag. My guess is that he never looked in it. He may not have intended to kill the woman and panicked when he did. He wanted to get rid of the bag as soon as possible but a distance away from the scene. Thats my guess anyway.

Well, you'd think he TOOK the bag from the scene for valuables (?)...but maybe there was a zippered inner pocket he didn't check, that had cash in it.

A lot of men don't know their way around the inside of a purse.

Very true. I believe the amount invovled was $1200. I'd imagine it was relatively bulky. I'd have liked to have heard an answer to this, and also the reported coffee throwing which was mentioned by the real killer at the end but not revealed by the victims husband during the trial, at least as we were shown it. Alas, it shall remain a mystery to us.

Well, court transcripts are public record. You have to pay to order a copy, but depending on the state, I think you can also go in and request to read them (though they have to be dug out of storage). Or, someone could email the attorney in the movie and ask....look for his contact info on the state bar website in whatever state he's now practicing in.

We could solve this!

The above link was posted by Hallheat on a different thread. Very interesting recent events. It seems that the police authorities held a big grudge since this trial concluded. Perhaps McGuinness could still be contacted in some way. Amazing that a lawyer of his ability is now looking for work.

Very late in posting, but who keeps that amount of cash in their purse?!

reply

Thats nothing, I always have around 50.000 on me
