What's wrong with this movie?

Ok this is not a masterpiece, but 4.4 out of 10 is a bit low for Michel Vaillant. Michel Abramowicz did a fantastic job, Archive music make the movie much better...maybe the only point who bother me is the actor job. Well they are not really good, but just ok. As the comment on the main page says: for race lover Michel Vaillant is a must see.
8/10

yeah, I aulso don't really understand why the rating is so low. ok, the sory isn't that good, but i tought the way of filming was just breathtaking.
really entertaining movie, deserves a 8/10

reply

lol. :D the way of filming breathtaking? There was nothing special about the filming in this movie. The whole movie was boring and the acting was terrible.

Driven has 4.4 and this has 4.5 at the moment.. Most people who watched both movies will agree that Michel Vaillant is 10 times better that Driven.
So.. I agree.. not a fair score.

:)

reply

Yeah! So Vaillant should have 44/10!

I this would had been better than Drivel but I gave up watching this after 15 minutes twice hence I had no choice but to rank it worse than Drivel

There's alot of things wrong with the movie. The weird french-english conversations which I doubt were like that in the comics, at least not the ones I read. Has anyone else notice that during the race scenes, there appears to be only about 3 or 5 genuine LeMans race cars while all the other cars are definately NOT Lemans racing cars, they appear to be other kind (indy, or the kind used in Days of Thunder). Of course it's based on a comic so everything else is out of place but I thought it was still enjoyable and deserved at least a 5 average.

There's more than one class of vehicules racing at the same time during Le Mans 24h, the cars you saw was from the gt-s class.

It's a strange movie, and the storytelling doesn;t unfold along the lines most moviegoers are used to. The cinamtics are stunning, but the story is a bit cheesy. Still it deserves at least 7/10 for being different.

I agree..this is really a great film, atleast for those hwo like fast cars,
and the effects are stunning... And remember, a film is more than just a storie(for those who really think's so)

While this movie is not great, even when compared to other race movies, I'm thinking Grand Prix and certainly not the Sylvester Stallone debacle of three years ago, it's still highly entertaining, and for those It babe completists among you, who can fail but be enchanted by the presence of Diane Kruger, Helen herself... (though I do admit to have seen this at 30,000 feet over the Atlantic while already sloshed with tequila smuggled in my backpack). I hope it's at least released on DVD stateside, because it certainly would hold its own against the likes of XXX, and other such overblown trash. Just my two cents'...

I have the Japanese version of this movie which is probably the best version out there if you dont mind listening to French throughout the whole movie but the fact that it comes with a DTS-ES soundtrack more then makes this version worth buying cause the sound effects from the cars are amazing if you have a nice surround sound system. Also if any of you have noticed this movie is co-produced by Luc Besson, famous for Leon: The Professional and The Transporter to name a few of his known movies so he is credited for most of the cinematography of this movie and how the race scenes turned out. His a bit like John Woo as far as how he likes his scenes made, his flashy which could probably be due to his French background but I enjoy his movies alot. This movie is definitely not for someone looking for a great storyline but the hardcore race fans out there who enjoy anything related to racing.

I haven't been able to find an english version here in the US but I finally got my hands on the original french/english as well as the german versions (thank you internet!!!) I must honestly say that I prefer the french version over the german (all the characters that spoke english in the french version now spoke badly dubbed german as if this was really necessary, did they think that only the french know english as a second language?) However the soundquality of the racing scenes seemed to be better on the german dvd. What bothered me was the inconsistencies with the comic book characters, shuffeling characters around and changing some names as well as revamping blonde blue-eyed Ruth to look like Posh Spice. I imagine that this is one of the reasons that some people gave this movie such a low rating. Aside from that I enjoyed the movie and hope they make a sequel. I just hope they stay a bit more true to the comic strip created by Jean Graton next time.

What's wrong with this movie?

The only thing that is wrong with this film is the 2cents brains that decided not to show this film in North America in theatre and still no official DVD region 1 release yet; It`s just plain dumb not distributing a french language made film in the world's second largest french language city, Montréal Canada. From the download I have, due to lack of official legal video release, this film was great, loved it.

I agree- usually films from Europe or French language films easily find distributors and showings in Quebec- It's just bizarre that they didn't pick up this polished piece of a money maker. Maybe it's because Quebec is focussing on building and producing it's own 'home-grown' french language films, and they didn't want to overshadow their own filmmakers for foreign ones.

That makes no sense, usually movie theatres here in Montreal, with all the crap they are forced to show from Hollywood, when a good movie comes around, no one spits on it and all are glad to have something intelligent to show to their costumers. Either it's protectionism from theatres here too many owned by large US corporations, but even so an other excellent film Les Chevaliers Du Ciel was shown here, and is available on DVD, or the people in France film industry did an absolutely awful job at distributing this film which seems more plausible

But no matter what, for Michel Vaillant an excellent film from 2003, not to be available in french Canada legally on official video release still today in 2008 in mind blowing nonsense whoever's fault it is.

Nothing about this film not being released in Canada makes sense...but they had to market the film man... come on- they had plenty of investors to shop this one around. Maybe it just didnt bite- you also have to think of what other french language films as well as Hollywood films that were released the same year. It could have been a good money year with the titles they had in Quebec that year...maybe this film just missed its boat to arrive and no one went looking for it after. PLUS- it is a high budget movie starring a character no one in Canada was really familiar with- maybe they didn't see the potential.

Also this movie isn't intelligent in the least- it's just polished and oh so very cool for the most part, but man...this film had the backing of Luc Besson's name...there's no way the distribution was half assed.
