The book: The Dragon and the George

The best I can tell, this has to be based loosely on Gordon Dickson's The Dragon and the George. It had been at least 25 years since I last read it as a teenager, so I didn't even notice at first. But the playful banter between the characters is reminiscent of the novel written for teenage readers and made me remember it. Too bad they didn't stick with the original title instead of flipping it around. The original has a better, more interesting plot line, too.

About the only similarity is the use of the idea of a dragon fighter named George. Which of course they got from the story of St. George, as did Dickson's book. There really is no other similarity. (For example, the dragon is hardly in this film at all: George interacts with the dragon's *egg* most of the time. If anything, the idea of an intelligent dragon bantering with a hero got used in "Dragonheart" with Dennis Quaid and Sean Coonery. here the only banter is between the hero and the heroine, whcih has been done in every movie from Gone With the Wind to True Grit.

I have to agree, not really based on the books. Anyone know if they will ever hand the series off to someone else so they can finish the story? Why did you leave us Dickson!!!! Why??!!
