Paolo's plan makes no sense

He wants to make it seem like Isabella can't sing. He must assume that Lizzie has a terrible voice otherwise this wouldn't work. But when they are rehearsing and he tells her to sing along with the track and realizes she actually can sing pretty well shouldn't he be like, "oh shoot guess this won't work out afterall"?

reply

Yeah I thought that too when Isabella asks the audience "Do you want to hear her sing?" because surely she must have thought Lizzie had a bad voice for Paulo's plan to work? But in answer to your question maybe he was hoping that once Lizzie realised there was no backing track it would throw her and she'd perfom badly?

reply

Yeah, you're right. Paolo told Lizzie that Isabella lip-synchs and that there would be a track for Lizzie to lip-synch to at the awards when in actuality Isabella sings live, therefore there was no track. If Lizzie was expecting there to be a track and it was her turn to sing and it turns out there really wasn't one she would be thrown off, confused, and it would look like Lizzie (Isabella) can't sing.

I never thought about that but you're right. I guess because Lizzie made a scene at her graduation, Paolo assumed she'd make a fool of herself at the awards too. Or else he thought the audience would hear the difference in pitch and assume Isabella had been lip syncing in previous songs, because even though Lizzie had a good voice, it didn't sound like Isabella.

-Who is it?
-It's Grandpa. And it sounds like he's gotten into the horseradish again.

But remember that Lizzie gets stage fright. She's not comfortable with performing in front of people hense why she tripped during her graduation.

Paolo knew about this weakness and tried to take advantage of it by hoping she would freeze on stage out of nervousness (which she almost did btw)
