Was i the only one that found...

the fact that half the movie is in french no subtitles a little annoying! Whats the point in listening to a whole conversation between two french people in one whole scene, no subtitles, youd this this is a film for the french!

reply

Come on - that's an exaggeration and you know it. Half the movie was NOT spoken in French.

If you pay attention, I think you can get a good idea of what is being said. The way it's done lets you experience what the American characters are going through, living/visiting France and not knowing the language.

Yes. I thought that was kind of the point, myself. Kate Hudson's character is not supposed to speak French well, and when people like the old woman at the apartment speaks French at her, we are supposed to feel what she is feeling - confusion.
They give you subtitles when it counts, such as the phone call between Charles-Henri's mother, her son, and daughter-in-law.

My copy had subtitles!

...MaggietheCatIsAlive is coming to you live from her home town in lovely Canada!!

I saw it with subtitles, and they seemed to be part of the film, not put on by the TV network or anything. They didn't subtitle all French lines, did yours have no subtitles at all or do you just mean the ones that didn't have any? I think maybe it was deliberate for some of them because they didn't want you to know. Luckily I could understand it.

My DVD had subs. Not all of the French was subbed, but most of it was.

But I understand your frustration. When I saw 2 Days in Paris there weren't any subs (problem with the dl), I thought it was supposed to be like that as Jack, the American in the film, couldn't understand what they were saying either (so we, the audience were supposed to "feel his pain"). Anyway there were subs and I watched it again and got all of the jokes, but I'm kind of happy I didn't get the subs at first. It made me connect with the movie more because I was in Jack's position.
