Why was Charlotte with them so much?

Typically in America the soon to be ex-sister in law does not spend so much time with her soon to be ex-sister in law (she probably wouldn't side with them so much either). I found this odd. Even at the end when it was clear Watts character has moved on, they were all visiting the Eiffel Tower. At one point it seemed like she was their guard dog. Maybe divorce is different in France?

Although it was reassuring to see a mother not completely take her son's side (no matter how in the wrong he is). And the mother and her sister-in-law caring so much for Isabel was weird. All in all these little oddities didn't make her into the evil mother in law I'm so used to seeing in films (I actually thought I had remembered her being a shrew to Watts' character, but I guess I was wrong). Sort of refreshing.

I think they just generally like Charlotte. She is a pretty cool character. And despite her always being at the mother-in-law's she does indicate early in the film that she is in Roxanne's corner.

As far as them being around at the end, well they are her child's relatives. It wouldn't be right to cut them off.
