Magda

Did anyone else find her annoying or is it just me?

reply

Yeah. I thought she seemed a little immature and unsophisticated in comparison to Roxy. But Charles-Henri was an artist, so maybe he found her inspiring. The movie does little to let us in on what he sees in her.

reply

Annoying and insensitive. Anyone who dallies with a married man knowing full well the tremendous hurt the other parties are experiencing.. if one must, i would have thought one would try and be a little more discreet to spare the others' feelings.

And to wave merrily at your unbalanced and violently jealous husband, while cavorting about in public with your new lover ..!? She must be kind of stupid too!

And not really that pretty either!!!! ...

reply

I agree with adriankoh-1 about Magda. Very stupid woman.

reply

Charles-Henri was the same (totally insensitive when Roxy was in the hospital!)

They were perfect for each other, hah

reply

OMG...she was incredibly annoying with her incomprehensible *beep* way of speaking. She kept on mumbling/singing and speaking in some kind of fake asian language. She would have driven me insane after 2 seconds. She wasn't even hot-looking. I'm not sure what Charles was thinking...although he was the most 1 dimensional character I've ever seen.

reply

I think he saw her as his muse as he said he started painting more (or better?) than he's ever painted before (I think it was implied as before meeting her). I guess Roxy didn't "inspire" him.

Well, I think, that his infatuation shows nicely his character. He was a spoiled, easy going son of wealthy family, handsome, talented - and therefore easy bored. He fell for Roxy, because she was oh so different from his background. After he found, that she is a regular human being with demands for responsibility, he got bored too. Had he got Magda, he´ll soon leave her for some Japanese painter or African performer. This murder didn´t do much harm to mankind, I must say! I was glad, that Roxy got so easy out.

reply

I have to admit...hearing Magda's voice was like nails on a chalkboard. Was she singing or was that how she talked?!! Very odd indeed! Also, she wasn't much to look at...look at that unibrow thing she had going on! Don't know what all the men in the film saw in her.

reply

She's annoying.
In the book Magda is a Czechoslovakian sociologist, described as devout and maternal, with pale hair. The makers of the movie probably wanted to make her annoying and otherwise unappealing, so we would hate her and side with Roxy.

reply

True. The book was fabulous.

reply

I hate the bitch. The screen time that she had shouldn't have even been sufficient enough for her to make me hate her, but she managed it.

reply

i loved the movie! but she's sooo annoying! gawd, was she singing in indian or? if i see her in a room i would want to slap her lol!

reply

I'd want to slap her, too. Lol.

reply

Kooky Russian broad.

reply

I didn't understand her speech either. It did sound like some kind of mock-asian language. It was very bizarre and distracting. I wonder if they couldn't decide what nationality to make the character at the time and had to dub some nonsense in before deciding. She's not Russian in the book.

reply

For me, it was her hands and the wayshe kept moving them - highly irritating.

reply

Agreed. Anyone with that voice, combined with that unibrow, deserved to be shot on sight.

reply

She sounded like something out of a Bollywood film with that weird voice/language and crazy way of singing. Complete nutter.

Of course she was annoying. We weren't supposed to like her. She was the mistress whom Charles-Hernri had left his pregnant wife for. Quite distasteful in itself.

I agree, she was portrayed as annoying as possible...so the viewers could hate her even more.

With her horrible voice and odd looking face, it had you wondering, WTF does this handsome man see in this woman?

You basically had to wonder what either man saw in this dizzy unappealing woman, the voice alone was excruciating, it actually hurt my ears! Imagine listening to that everyday?!

I've never seen this actress before, though I've noticed here that she's been in other films with Romain Duris who was also in this film. He played Yves, who ended up with Kate Hudson's character.

I sure hope that odd sounding annoying voice was fake, I can't imagine any actress sustaining a career with such a bizarre voice! It might be great for a cartoon character, but very limiting for anything else.

what the director do?? make the actress suck like 8 pound of helium before every scene? so friggin annoying..man I wanted to swat her like the annoying insect she was.

You pipple mek my ass twitch

the russian girl, one of the most irritating characters in cinema ever !

:D

the way she moved, talked, even dressed... and she was quite ugly too.

SPOILERS

i think that nobody felt sorry when we found what his husband did to her.

(same with charles henri... i mean can such a RAT deserve any sympathy? :D they deserved each other, although he was more attractive... stupid to leave his intelligent, talented and über gorgeous wife for that 'cussack' freak!)
