did roxy annoy the hell out of anyone else??

I found Roxy's character really infuriating and unsympathetic in both the book and the movie.

As far as the movie goes, did anyone else find her obnoxious and spoiled?
She particularly annoyed me in these scenes:

1) when she and her mother in law and isabel are having tea and she tells her mother in law (suzanne) that she "might not want to bring a child into a broken home" and then later on isabel said she didn't know roxy was thinking of not keeping the baby and roxy said "of COURSE i'm keeping it" ah, it just irritated me.

2) when roxy and charles-henri are meeting with the french lawyer and roxy goes I OPPOSE DIVORCE! ON PRINCIPLE! and just her general refusal to give in to the divorce was annoying.

3) when she meets charles-henri on the bench in a park and he tells her she might not be able to keep his name but that the children would and she goes "I HAVE TO HAVE THE SAME NAME AS MY CHILDREN."
good god why??? who cares????

4) in that same scene on the bench when charles-henri asks her if she had a test to see what gender the baby is and she goes "no i would NEVER do that! it's like peeking at your presents before christmas" ahhhhhhhh

5) during the scene where they have lunch at the fancy restaurant with their parents and roxy's lawyer and roxy says in sort of disbelief "i even thought of getting a job!" my god, how spoiled IS she?

6) the suicide thing. c'mon lady, you do NOT have it that bad. TONS of people get divorced every freaking day. and besides, your husband's a whiny jerk anyway, you're gorgeous and can get any other guy you want, you have all the money in the world, a young daughter AND a baby on the way who you supposedly couldn't fathom aborting.

just had to get that off my chest.
i did like isabel. she was cool.... didn't like the haircut or the cheesy red nails though.

This whole film annoyed me.

No she didn't really. I felt very sorry for her. I can understand 1, 2, 3 and 4. 5 not very cool. 6 was abit selfish, but she wasn't as crazy as the bloke in the same situation.

I hated Isabel. How can you like her better? She was also frustrating, very materialistic, and supporting adultery! Ew.

I know this post is old but my thoughts on number 3:

My sister is getting divorced at the moment and she has a four year old son. She's keeping her married name so that they have the same name. She said that it was important to her so she could have the same name as her son. I'm not explaining it very well and maybe you have to be in that same situation to completely understand but I think it's quite important to most mothers to have the same last name as their children.

This one really irritated me. And her family was all aghast, as if they couldn't believe she'd ever consider doing such a thing! WTF?! I'm guessing the family was rather well off, so maybe she had family money? Plus, how was Isabel surviving in Paris? I know she got the job, but what did she do before that? Was she a student? Taking some time off? Independently wealthy? The mind boggles.

I thought they were just snickering because they know how hard it is to be a single mother. Finding a job that would let you run off to your kid whenever it"s needed is tricky.

No - I like her a lot. She grew as a character who was emotionally dependent on a husband who had moved on without telling her - of course she's heartbroken - who wouldn't be. She had to suffer a lot - infidelity, betrayal and wondering how she was going to go on. And asking how Henri could leave her - expecting another child, etc. that's what so great about this film. She grew in strength and I loved it when she slugged derange-o with her purse etc. I thought she was smart, sassy and finally developed the courage to know she could stand on her own. So..I don't understand those who find fault with her.
