My dream cast / production team for a high budget remake

This is a very, very good story but the film is so low budget. I would love a faithful high budget remake. Even Syfy could give this a better budget.

Here's my dream cast and production team for a high budget remake.

Director: Neil Jordan. He'd be true to the source material and probably want the original director and writer on set to help. He's very good about things like that. I'm partial to Tim Burton but he's not very good for boook adaptations that aren't his own poetry.

Screenplay: John Cunningham, D. L. Warner, Caroline Thompson and Neil Jordan.

Music: Danny Elfman

Simon Molinar = Either Jason Carter again or Johnny Depp

Dr. Joe McKay = Orlando Bloom

Dr. Bassett: Christopher Lee or if he's too old than Terrence Mann

James Conroy = Tommy Lee Jones

Susan Harold = Helena Bonham Carter

Det. Gwen Taylor = Valarie Cruz (I loved her in Dresden Files)

Keep Jason as Simon Molinar, to me it's a must. I think he nailed it as Simon and made me wonder what he would have been like if he hadn't been ousted when the Studio execs gave the roll to Gary Oldman when Coppola wanted Jason for the part for 'Dracula'.

Not sure about Orlando Bloom as Joe.

Maybe add Terrence Stamp as Dr. Bassett if Christopher Lee isn't available.

I think this story has a lot going for it. Considering the amount of remakes and sequels Hollywood are making nowadays. If it can't be a film maybe make it into a mini series with Simon and Joe scuppering the plans of 'Delphi' to create their own vampires.

This film had a very good, unique plot. It's the budget that made it weak. And I'd like to see a version deal with the part of the story only in Mrs. Warner's novel, Simon after the escape and the rescue of Joe when he was to be the next lab rat.

I agree about Jason if he doesn't mind reprising the role but I also think Johnny Depp could do it since he's signed up to be Barnabas for Dark Shadows. Is Jason aging well? It's been eight years.

Absolutely agree with the budget. (I took a few screen caps of him in DuG and B5. You could tell the picture quality). Saw some pictures of him at 'The Dead Matter' premier. But I don't think it's anything that some No. 1 black can't handle :)

Id like to view this one day perhaps. Where im from its called vampire though i think.

It was originally called 'Demon under Glass' (Better title IMO. 'Vampire' just sounds so cliche.)

I believe you can still get it as DuG from amazon etc.

Demon Under Glass is the original title.

Beyond a bigger budget and better actors in many roles, the thing that would reallyhelp it is a total rewrite of the script, and zero involvement from Warner/Cunningham. They're unfortunately both pretty much talentless hacks.

reply

I disagree. I read the novel (which is also by D. L. Warner) and with the second half the book missing from the film that second half might be what is needed to complete a high budget film version.

reply

I read the book, too. Actually worse than the movie, which is an amazing accomplishment.
As I said, talentless hacks.

reply

To each their own. I liked it. I thought it was a very unique take on the idea.

reply

Oh, the idea itself was fine. It was the execution of it, both on the printed page and the film, that truly sucked. Again, if someone with actual talent had handled either, it could've been a very good film.
