Apparently it is(http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0306685/movieconnections)
and that doesn't make sense because Jet Li and DMX play different characters in all three movies.
So is it a goof or am i missing something here?

It's a mistake. I think all three of these movies are interconnected because Andrzej Bartkowiak directed them and DMX is in them (Jet Li was not in "Exit Wounds"). So, no; the three movies are completely separate story-wise.

I call these movies Bartkowiak's Martial Arts/Hip-Hop Trilogy. The three movies share a similar style, the music, and parts of the cast (DMX and Anthony Andrews are in all three of them, Jet Li and Tom Arnold in two). So it's basically an interconnected ensemble series with unconnected stories and characters.

this shuda been romeo must die 2 but then Aaliyah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaliyah) died in a plane crash (the hot girl from the first part). she was amazing. a real loss. anyway yea so in the end instead of recasting her they turned it into a different storyline.

This is like a Monty Python, or an Adam Sandler thing. Meaning that the same crew of producers actors and director come back to work on various other movies.

I do not see anything wrong with this, in fact I like that they support each other.

Yeah, it's been going on for years. John Wayne had a number of directors he worked frequently with as well as co - stars like Ben Johnson and Ward Bond who appeared with him heaps of time . Robert Altman was really well known for the close-knit actors and production staff he worked with for years. Clint Eastwood did the same sort of thing, particularly in his early days as a director. Andrzej Bartkowiak is simply following in their footsteps.🐭
