Narration

I always found some of the narration a bit annoying in this film (if not completely obnoxious in the closing of the film.) A friend of mine who say it as a child did not remember the narration and insisted (at least in the closing segment) that it was absent when it was first televised.

I only saw this later on video--can anyone comment on this (perhaps someone with exceptional powers of recollection!)???

reply

It was televised? As in played on TV?

I first saw it when my grandfather got it for me on VHS. *hugs copy, old, but still watchable* I don't remember it ever being televised on TV.

Anyway, I remember it having a narrator. I didn't find it obnoxious at all but I guess that's just me.

Such a sad but yet excellent film.

Yes a friend of mine claims to have seen it on TV when they were young and also claimed the narration was absent. Of course, time distorts a lot of things, and given that the narration serves no purpose, it would be easy to forget.

Just watched bits and pieces of the Japanese version and there is NO narration. Man, I hate dubs.

reply

if you watched it in BITs, then how would you know if there was no narration?

And the English Dub narration didn't take anything away from the movie. And the voices and acting were good.

lvd orders:

Where did you get a Japanese language version? Is there one currently available? It was out of print on all the sites I visited.

Agree about dubbing. It ruins everything. My Life as a Dog is a particularly good example.

reply

The narrator sounds exactly like George Takei from Star Trek.
