This film and Basquiat are starting to open up a new genre

The buppie artist. We don't see this persona on screen hardly at all except as maybe an object of derision. Spike Lee marginalizes these characters with the exception of Mo' Better Blues and of course his contempt for the commercial television artist of Bamboozled.

Its a good sign of progress.

I agree. Hollywood, black Hollywood and a lot of the black audience act like affluent or rich black people are the enemy. Always portrayed as voting republican, turning their back on their own community, and exhibiting self-hate. They act as if true black people have to always struggle. That's why black actors/actresses only only get nominated for playing poor, down-trodden, or hustler characters.
