Characters you admire

There are some reprehensible characters on The Wire but also some real heroes. Who are the characters you admire most?
My votes are for:
Lester: a brilliant mind and a natural leader
Bubbles: he is damaged, he has screwed up but he is truly kind-hearted and courageous
Omar: the man has a code
Bodie: A soldier, loyal to the end to those he respects
Daniels: Always has his team's back, respects 'chain of command' but will stand up when he disagrees with an order
Colvin: A good man, enough said
Sobotka: Got into bed with the wrong people but his intentions were noble

Good point. Prez did step up as he matured.

Bubbles
Lester

those are my top 5 most admired characters

" Tell me mom...when your little girl's on the slab...where will it tickle you?"

reply

Dang I forgot Prop Joe = he was the best "boss" who really grew in the show, and a very wise man. Not wise or brutal enough though.

reply

Frank. He did the wrong thing for the right reasons. A tragic character.

Forget it Jake. It's Chinatown.

reply

Yeah Marlo and Cheese were scumbags of the highest order. No loyalty, vile, paranoid scum. Well played but no one can like or admire them, surely?

Pryzbylewski = He *beep* up as bad as a cop can but his intentions were always good and he was always by the book and fair. He became a really fantastic teacher and role model.

Bubbles = The best character hands down, for me.

Omar = Another favourite. Took risks he wouldn't have in real life but was fantastically played.

Kima = HOT! But also a brilliant, tough cop. Respected and looked up to Lester, as she should.

Lesta = One of my favourites. Awesome, cool as *beep* dude.

McNulty = As a TV character I loved him in whatever state he was in, but I really liked him when he was "clean". He couldn't stop the work becoming too personal.

Bunk = Cool dude, tough, smart and amusing.

Bodie = I wouldn't say I liked or respected him, but he definitely grew on me.

I have forgotten their names but I liked the guy who ran the boxing gym a lot, and the sponsor/councillor guy who helped Bubs. And the addict babe who "nearly bled out" giving that speech. Others too.

EDIT: Bunny and Prop Joe = I liked and admired both of those very different characters.

Wallen...that was the sponsors' name. Does anyone know if he was an actual actor prior to the role? I'm too lazy to research :-(

great post! Agree with them all.

No one thinks Daniels is an admirable character? I love that guy, a true leader.

reply

Maybe...but I couldn't get pass his voice and mannerisms. He just irked me for some reason. I guess I could say that I admired his ability to not compromise his morals no matter how much he wanted to climb the career ladder. It was so hard for me to admit that because he really irked me. I found myself rolling my eyes whenever he was on the screen.

Anthony Colicchio , would have liked him to get the top cop's job he would have recruited the right people for the obvious solution

Nice one.
