I can't believe Casey Kasem is still doing Shaggy's voice...

I was watching a show on cartoon network, and I noticed that Shaggy had a wicked case of old man voice (sort of like when Sean Connery did the voice of James Bond in "From Russia with Love" the video game that came out recently). Low and behold, Casey old-ass Kasem is still voicing Shaggy...

I guess that sounds right though...I really can't see any other way the guy would be making money at this age...

Yeh! I was watching it the other day, and thinking, 'that voice is a good impersination of Casey's voice, I wonder how they found him'

So, to check i looked on here.

Go Casey!! For a man of his age!

I know, he shouldn't be making him a dumbass vegetarian.

reply

Well Shaggy is supposed to be a hippie right, and in this generation being a hippie is more then hugging trees, they dont eat meat! And its insulting to say "dumbass vegetarian" maybe you should do some research on vegetarinism and see some of the great people who dont eat meat. You might be surprised.

reply

Yeah, but back in the olden days, he wasnt a vegetarian. And those were the late 60s and early 70s, when the actual hippie "generation" existed.

And in this "generation", folks consider me a hippie, and I eat meat, AND hug trees.

But, you're right about the great icons who are vegetarians.

Anyway, it blew my mind as well when I just discovered a few moments ago that Casey Kasem is still doing the voice of Shaggy. Frank what's-his-face, is still doing the voice of Fred, too.

reply

actually he was a beatnik (many of whom actually ate or eat meat) and is rarely portrayed as a vegetarian, in fact to get around Kasem's request to make him a vegetarian hanna barbera added more junk food to his diet instead overshadowing hamburgers with potato chips

reply

Yes. In Reality Casey Kasem is a Vegetarian. And they Finally made Shaggy that. Sadly now he retired, but had a great career for many years. And now Matthew Lillard returns to be Shaggy animated. And Casey Kasem is not OLD. The Best and Only Voice for Shaggy. Shaggy has never changed only Fred which is still Frank Welker. Fred has gotten much slower and more foolish than he ever was.

reply

Casey Kasem, Billy West, Scott Innes, Scott Menville. They all are equally good at sounding like Shaggy.

reply

yeah its great isnt it? and frank welker is still voicing fred. i cant imagine it any other way. and as someone said, the vegetarianism fits well for shaggy being a hippie and all. and casey kasem IS shaggy pretty much, if one is a vegetarian, the other should be too.

reply

No one can do shaggy better than kasem, who retired last year, there's a new scooby series coming out it airs this upcomming summer, he voices shaggy the first season, Matthew Lilliard is his replacement in the movies and TV shows.

I've been enjoying the posts about this show. I grew up with the "and I would have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for you kids!" One phrase popped up as sinister and that was "dumbass vegetarians." There are many reasons for people to eschew meat. I have been a vegetarian for 13 years and I am healthier than I have ever been. In fact, my Mom and Dad, who both ate a good bit of meat, were both on a cholesterol medicine. Since they have been following a vegetarian diet, they have both been able to stop taking the medicine.
My belief is that there are plenty of things to eat without having to sacrifice animals. The same goes with clothing, furs, and this might surprise you, gummy worms and jell-o.
Please stop for just a second and think before you throw down a blanket clain like that.

Thanks.

Meat's no treat for those you eat!!

I grow up when they were sending "The Scooby Doo Show (or Scooby Doo/Dynomut Hour)" on TV. And because I'm from Sweden, I didn't hear the original voices until years later, when I got the DVD. And the first time was from the series "What's new Scooby Doo?". And now every time I'll see SD, I must have the original voices, especially Shaggys. :)

Of all the ones that did his voice, Casey Kasem is my favorit. Or at least it was before, now it's tied with Matthew Lillard. I admit, the first time time I heard Lillard as Shaggy (in the cartoon version, not the live one), I noticed that the voice was different, and a little strange, but at the same time it felt familiar. And it was in the end when they showed the name of the voices that I understood why it felt familiar. And after that Casey and Lillard are tied as my favorit Shaggy-voice. (The movie was "Scooby Doo! Abracadabra Doo".)

But I do think that Lillard IS Shaggy, and that's because he also have the figure as Shaggy, not just the voice. :P

Matthew Lillard really just is a great fit as Shaggy that it's almost uncanny. While he's not Kasem, he's just got something fitting. I feel like even if the live movies didn't do the series the best justice, Lillard has proven himself as Shaggy taking over the voice role.

But to be honest i've always felt Lillard was a show stealer in his live action work, and i admit i do think he's an excellent successor to Casey Kasem. If i can't have Kasem as Shaggy, i will gladly take Lillard.

To me, Kasey Kasem IS the only true "Shaggy Doo", nobody else could truly be him, he formed Shaggy, back in the late 60's, and when Lillard took over for him, I knew it wasn't Kasem, but, I could hear the "Shaggy" in him, and I feel bad, that Lillard has to destroy his voice(He screams shortly before-hand, to make his voice change to that of Shaggy's voice.), which to me, will be a long-term ordeal, but, if anyone were to take over for Kasey Kasem, I am glad it was Mathew Lillard, but, I also still feel bad, for his vocal chords, since he ravishes em, as badly as he does, just to play the role of Shaggy......
