ode to looking glass

There once was a developer who made outstanding games. Creative innovators who lead, but did not follow. They made 3d games before they became popular, and when all the other Sheep were making fps they were crafting a different kind of game. One in which the last letter of fps stood for 'stealth'. Gameplay which required thought and cunning, rather than the mindless brute force of their peers.

Sadly they are no more. The irony is that the best games come from individuals who are willing to take risks, but in this fickle industry too many risks means you won't last long so a balancing act has to be undertaken. To their credit Looking Glass lasted a few years mainly because of wonderful games like this.

agree, really sucks that they are not active in the gaming business anymore.. i felt Thief 3 missed something that T & T 2 had..

And the same about Bullfrog.. Dungeon Keeper is one of my old favourites too, no more DK or T games from the good old companies

Looking Glass made some great titles. I'm sorry they went out of business. The nature of the industry means that the small time developer can make some rocking titles, but there're so many cool titles out on the market now that they don't get noticed like they used to. That, and they don't have as a long a shelf life.

I wish they had done Thief-3, which in a sense they did as a lot of the dev team from the previous game worked on the third installment through ... what company put out T3? Activision?

Well, it'll be interesting to see what happens in the coming years game wise. The market seems saturated now, and hitting the same kind of doldrums as films.
