This movie is underrated

Stratosphere Girl is one of the best movies I've watched recently and I only found out about it by chance.
I really don't understand why there's not much information about this film(about the actors, reviews, the soundtrack, etc). Even this board is kind of lonely...I recommended SG in the LIT board a few days ago because is another of my favourite films and it has a similar atmosphere(even though the story is completely different) but no one answered so I guess most people is not interested in films that doesn't have many publicity.
I wanna know if someone else thinks this movie is underrated and if they feel the same about other films. I really appreciate if someone could recommend a good movie hidden somewhere.

Try films from these filmmakers: Tom Tykwer (Germany), Lynne Ramsay (Scotland) and Patricia Rozema (Canada). Read about them here on IMDb first, and then decide if you want to watch.

My personal favorites:

Morvern Callar (Ramsay)
Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (Tykwer)
When Night is Falling (Rozema)

And here are some “forgotten” Asian gems: “Eat Drink Man Woman”, “20 30 40” and “Tian mi mi”.

I don't remember who recommended it on the LIT board, but I definitely saw it within the past week because someone mentioned it there. You're right, though. Very underrated. I thought I would like sme visuals and a little bit of the atmosphere, but it wound up being one of the better movies I've seen in maybe a month! Perhaps it still needs time to find its audience. These things take years ("Donnie Darko," "Office Space") or even decades ("Citizen Kane," "It's A Wonderful Life"). Notice these are titles we recognize now yet were not appreciated in their own time.

Sadly, I don't recognize any of Cine's recommended directors but one: Tom Tykwer. He recommended "The Princess & the Warrior," which is definitely worth the watch. I would recommend starting with his "Lola Rennt" (aka "Run Lola Run") if you haven't seen it. It put Tykwer on the map, and is one of the best, most original films in the past decade (it got lost in the fantastic year of 1999 aka The Matrix, Star Wars, Fight Club, Office Space [whoops!]).

If I had to recommend one hidden gem, it'd be Shane Carruth's "Primer." Another film lost in a great year (2004). However, Sundance had the foresight to give it the Grand Jury prize in a very competitive year. Very original. If you appreciate The Twilight Zone for its originality and underlying philosophical complexities, I would recommend it. What else is amazing: Carruth only spent $7,000 to make it, and it still is more intriguing and entertaining than most multi-milllion dollar blockbusters!
Here's the trailer:

Now I *must* find out who these people Cine recommended!

Yes! This movie is a masterpiece of style, beauty and atmosphere. One of the strangest, most quietly hypnotic films of all time. And actress/model Chloe Winkel was so beautiful as "Angela." It's just not for all audiences, as many people need action and violence and a fast moving, linear storyline. Stratosphere Girl has none of these things, and that is what makes it so special. I hear the director is planning a sequel? I hope so, and i really hope it stars Chloe Winkel once again!

no it isn't

I've checked some sites, and there's no news of the sequel. :(

It seems Oberg did a script ("Die Frau am Horizont") and a documentary ("Ein Ton Blau"), but nothing on a new feature so far. :(

However, UNTER DER LICHSTRAßE/UNDER THE MILKY WAY has found it's way back to the light of day, after being rumored "lost" for some time. :D
