Ok, so I've been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of my life. And OK, a lot of non-members don't get the jokes. But this movie actually makes *sense* to them. Will Swenson's character, Jonathan Jordan, explains where non-memebers or less active memebers or even new memebers can understand. I think the movie was alot of fun. And it had really righteous soundtrack... pardon the pun.

Lol. I loved this movie too. And I've been trying to hunt down the soundtrack, but it's been sold out EVERYWHERE, even all the Seagull Books I went to while in Utah for two weeks! I did manage to grab the RM sountrack. That's another great movie. I think I like it more than The Singles Ward. But I just love missionaries, I guess. ;P

I totally agree, I love the movie but I wasn't sure any of my friends who aren't LDS would like it. Whelp, I took them to it anyway and it cracked them up! And as I always say, "Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, they will be amused where ever they go!"

I love this movie. I think the best part is when Hyrum and Elder Martin are inhaling helium finding clues to the Preference Dance-

Papa Smurf! Papa Smurf! This came out of the balloon! It looks like another piece to the PUZZLE!

I am not LDS , but I liked this movie very much. I attended a singles ward with an LDS friend of mine once, and the people were great, warming and welcoming. I have nothing but respect for the LDS church, great people and great moral message. More so than many other people. From my expereince I believe most LDS actually stick to and follow the teachings, most LDS seem to really devot themselves, I wish other Christians could to the same as many seem to get pulled away from Christ and sucked into the deciet and lies of so many things.

I wanted to know, do singles wards actually have dances and such like that? And that song that dance song in this movie was in the two other LDS comedies I saw. "The RM" and "The Home Teachers" Is that a popular song in the LDS community? Just something I noticed in all three movies.

I'm LDS, and attended student wards at BYU. Yes, I invited a guy to the Preference dance, where we danced to Staying Alive, and music like that (gosh, am I dating myself?) Regular dance music, in other words.

That song is a popular Primary game song, for children to sing, which has been set to a sort of rock scenario. I've never heard them play music like that at a church dance. I wish they would!

I wasn't a member of the church when I first saw this movie, but I still got all of the jokes.

I'm a member now though... I'm actually getting ready to serve a mission in St. Petersburg Russia!

I love this movie so much! It's so funny!

Congratulations on your call! That's so exciting! Although, you're probably already gone by the time you read this, haha. Well, you can read it when you get back!

Congrats!

A Mormon friend had me watch this movie right after it came out. I thought it was a little funny in parts, having grown up with Mormons all around me, but I thought the message at the end was a little heavy handed.

Also, I would have picked the Bartender over Cammie. Cammie was very judgmental, and the bartender was more of an open-minded, free spirit.

I suppose you should define "judgmental". Cammie was just sticking to the standards she believes and the bartender obviously lives by less rigid standards which makes her a fun free spirit.

I grew up a member around non-members, mostly Southern Baptist, who told me I was going to h*ll because I was a Mormon....Now that's being judgemental!

reply

Good point. I guess I'm more of a free spirit.
