He wanted to change at the begining, went to texes, but his plan fell through like his ma said. his dad tried to conivince him to try again but he was back to his old "tricks". Then the girl decided to change lifestyles. That guy wasnt the girls dad, that was the car sales men that she gave the b-j to in the begining for the car. I believe his name was tom, and she was going to marry him and try to lead a straight life with a person who obviously seems like a regular *beep* Sonny's Dad tryed to conivince him to give change another shot, but he went and *beep* that old lady in a police uniform, "change is hard" is wot i got from the end

Yeah, the whole progression of their relationship was just thrown in there all of a sudden, and you don't really see much of it, outside of the whole rain/barn scenes. Most of it is just an "understood" thing because there was too much to focus on in his field of work and other problems with his life. She was really a small part that made a huge difference, even though it didn't make a lick of sense. When Jewel yells at her about running off with Sonny before she goes to get Henry out of jail REALLY came out of nowhere.

And to the second post, his name was Troy, and yeah, he was the car salesman who she got the Pontiac from.

According to the DVD audio commentary, John Carlen, the writer said that a lot of explanatory dialog was cut out of the movie. That's why thing seem to jump around.

In the scene where Sonny is exercising and his mother is sitting on the bed watching, you may notice the red marks on his body. There was a scene after the dress date where Sonny got beat up by a cop that was cut out.
