This is a good movie, and I can't get past the fact why people don't like this so much. Is it because they don't enjoy seeing what others might think of them on the screen? This movie was extremely fun to watch, it had a very interest story and it wasn't hi-gloss. There's an excellent line in this movie that asks sonny going out there where the money will just bring you a whole another set of problems, even worse then the ones you have now. This part of the movie really deserve's more credit, was original, real, and well said.

Actually...it's rubbish. The story was utterly pointless, the cast were great but had nothing to go with. The twist about his father was one of the most predictable twists I've come across and the direction was just crap. Don't get me wrong, I tried to like this movie. I thought I would. But I just couldn't.

Since America has a Puritanical history, any movie that deals with sexuality, directly or indirectly, is automatically looked down on. It doesn't matter how good, entertaining or enlightening it is.

Too bad for the judgmental people. Their loss. It's really Sonny's coming of age story. He's trying to grow up and get outside of his mother's reach and influence. It's secondary that his family business is providing sex for money or stealing from tourists.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

sorry but that's a stupid comment.
this is simply a poorly executed movie. i honestly couldn't believe the horrible performances given by the actors--i watched this movie not knowing a thing about it and kept shaking my head wondering why the director kept going with the absolute worst takes... then, at the end, when i found out nic cage directed--it all made sense. (and i'm not even a blind hater of nic cage... i think given the right script he may be able to make something surreal and brilliant--akin to his performance in the bad lt remake w/ werner herzog)

It's one of those movies that isn't really "good," so you're not going to go out of your way to see it, but it isn't really "bad," so if it comes on cable TV some night and nothing else is on you'll sit back and watch it.
