Queen Latifah's clothing

When Queen Latifah's character first appears in the movie (meeting Steve Martin), she is dressed like a person in that situation would be...she had just broken out of prison and didn't really have money, and even if she did, she would have to keep a low profile right...so then how come starting the next day and from then on, Latifah was suddenly dressed in expensive clothes, got hair extensions and all the works, and basically was all dolled up like a Beverly Hills girl??
