IN THEATRES VS THE DVD EXPERIENCE

We saw "Fascination" in October in a theatre in Germany and we left the screening in protest because the sound was terrible. For example, the dialogue was barely audible and the music was extremely loud....The screening seemed to be totally unprofessional. Since we believed this to be the fault of the projectionist, we complained. We were told that it was not the fault of the projectionist but that the print had no dolby digital sound capability. The theatre blamed the distributor...

However, now we bought the DVD - and the experience is entirely different! Suddenly it makes sense. The manipulative aspects of the story work. I was surprised and impressed. This is the first film of the director! I read another comment that compares the film to Hitchcock. Before I saw the film on DVD , I thought this comparison was ludicrous. But now I see the point. It is not so much the suspense that makes you associate Hitchcock, but to tell this complex and incredible story nevertheless very convincingly and believable is quite an achievement. This can only be pulled off with great acting. And great acting often needs a good director...By the way, the direction reminded me more of a unique French film rather than an American formular thriller.

Alice Evans is a wonderful actress and I definitely want to see more starring roles from Adam Garcia. I already loved him in "Boot Dance" and "Coyote Ugly". He is gorgous. He can dance like the devil. He can surf. Hollywood should use him in a big action film with lots of publicity so that we girls can see more of him!

Does Adam Garcia do any nude scenes here or wut?

reply

There is one scene where you can see his butt which the girls who saw the film with me really liked...

By the way, my friend in Germany went to see the film when it was in theatres in October last year. He also complained about the sound and the theatre manager told him that unfortunately there was a problem with the print, the distributor had delivered a print without digital sound. The projectionist could not make the film sound any better and therefore the manager only showed the film in late night screenings so that he would not need to respond to many complaints because there would not be many people watching a late night film...

I had the exact same experience. I went to see the film in the theatre, but left after 30 minutes (I simply snuck into another film that was starting).

When the DVD came out, I figured I'd give the film another chance - and I really, really liked it. This is one clever little thriller with a lot of surprises. Go and rent it if you can!

I only rented the DVD -- no sound problems.

I bought the DVD in America and there are no problems with the sound.

I know heaps of people who would love to see more of Adam in "hit" movies, however his choice lately has been theatre - and now that he lives in England, who knows when we'll see him on screen again?

Can't wait for Standing Still to be released so that I can add it to my collection!!!

reply

I totally agree with you. Adam is sooo good. But he lives in London and not in Los Angeles and this is probably why Hollywood doesn't give him the parts in the big "hit" movies...
Did you see LOVES BROTHER?

Where can I get "Standing Still"?

[..]"This can only be pulled off with great acting. And great acting often needs a good director"[..]

sadly none of these things are present in this movie...

Personally I think comparing it to Hitchcock really is selling it short.

Think 'Citizen Kane' except so much better OMG! With pencil eraser nipples too!

BEST MOVIE EVER!!!

I didn't see it in theaters, so I can't make a comparison, but the DVD is great.
