I am Aussie!

I have never said this about anyone and I hope never to say this again, but Steve Irwin is a disgrace to Australia. No one should be that stupid and be this semi-iconic figure. Seriously, the image he gives to people overseas is that Aussies are like that. Lately, I had someone ask if I really did ride my pet kangaroo to school; HELLO?? What kind of world do you live in? At least Paul Hogan was slightly better.

I'm watching this film while writing this. I'm trying to distract myself by replying to this.

Help....

I assume everyone knows the running joke about Americans being ignorant and not knowing of anything of the world outside their own country, well Australians, ur not much better y'kno.

Steve acts like Steve does. I hope you are aware that he isnt the only person in the world who hunts crocs and what not. There are many people that act like that, just because he is a character that Americans like doesnt mean he should change! Seriously sometimes Aussies can be such *beep* and i think it all comes back to the whole Patriotism thing.

Why is he a disgrace if he makes Americans think that Australia is filled with Kangaroos and stuff? Any American who knows a thing will hopefully relize its not like that and even if they do!! OMG go have a cry, hey guess what, Americans COME to Australia for the kangaroos! Im so sick of Australians blasting Urwin for disgracing Australia!

See the Episode 6: Closing Rant

You should've seen the title of the movie and realized it wasnt going to be a work a art and im hope ur aware that he has a TV show called "The Crocidile Hunter" in which he does save crocidiles. Why should he change how he acts just because some Up-Nose Heavily-Americanized-Australians are worried about how the great and fantastic Americans think their country is like! YOU ARE THE PEOPLE THAT DISGRACE AUSTRALIA!

god for a young and rich country we have some major social issues.

Molerat, I'll say this again as I said in another thread, many Australians don't like Steve Irwin because he is an over the top actor that makes the rest of us look like idiots, he does seem to care about animals, I will admit that. He also, I've noticed, loves to poke and prod animals, which bugs the crap out of me.

And, a point to add, your generalising, NOT ALL AUSTRALIANS HATE STEVE IRWIN, my brother loves him, as a matter of fact. Your a idiot if you think that every Australian absolutely hates Steve Irwin, or he wouldnt be popular. I don't like him, and I never will, but before u go and insult every person living in Australia, how about looking at the people who do.

reply

i am australian, and i know that alot of people do and dont hate Steve Urwin...i am not a particular fan while i respect him for the things he does with wildlife and stuff

I kno people hate him but I HATE HOW PEOPLE HATE HIM BECAUSE THEY THINK IT MAKES AMERICANS THINK AUSTRALIANS ARE IDIOTS! I HATE THE FACT THAT AUSTRALIANS ARE AFRAID OF WHAT AMERICANS THINK OF THEM!

It is a good thing that he pokes and prods those captive crocodiles and here is why; if he just leaves them in there enclosure 24/7 by themselves and just throws there food to them they will become lazy and loose some of there wild animal instincts. He is simply giving them something to want to attack before feeding them thus keeping those instincts intact. (or something like that)

Steve said this himself when asked about it.

reply

hey i'm american and i just wanted to let all the aussies here know that we don't think you're idiots because of steve irwin. on the contrary, i think most people here enjoy him because of the sense of adventure obtained from watching the show. he's so insane and reckless that it makes us laugh. I think the american stereotypes of aussies are fun/adventurous, hot outback body, hot accents, ....just if you wanted to know... and i'm not saying that's what we expect or what everyone thinks, but for a person who really doesn't know much about australia, that's most likely what they would think....i've only met one australian person in my life, but i really want to go there, it seems like an amazing place!

english muffin? yes. between the nook and cranny of the english muffin- that is where i'm from.

To be fair, I have seen John Waynes movies, but never assumed all Americans talked liked him all lived in the wild west. Maybe the stupid people are the ones who believe one Australian must be representative of all.

Ha ha... I'm an Aussie too, but Steve's a legend. I would love to have yanks think I could wrestle a crocodile or pick up highly venomous snakes :D

reply

I don't think it's fair calling him a disgrace to Australia. He can't help it if people in the world are ignorant enough to think all Australians are like him.

I think he does a great job teaching people about animals in an interesting way.

Yes the film was *beep* But it's the only way he was going to get a chance to show more people what he is about.

At least he doesn't wear a hat with cork screws or have a can of fosters or castlemaine xxxx in his hand all the time.

reply

yeah, its pretty dumb thinking that he "represents the country" haha

but anyway, all i wanna know is how this movie got 5.8 stars

and HOW THE HELL DID I END UP ON THIS FORUM!!!!???

A is for Anna. B is for Brutus. H is for THE HIVES!!

reply

Australians just wish they were like him

reply

Oh well, it's all academic now anyway. Let's just hope that his gruesome death doesn't make a legend out of the man.

For the record, I am Australian and I detested Steve's TV show, but I thought the movie was pretty funny. You just have to keep it in perspective.

Cheers,
Jimbo

reply

He's already a legend, he didn't have to wait until he died to become one. Sorry to burst your bubble.

reply

Yeah well he's dead now......

In a story I just wrote about wolves, one of the wolves was quasi-biologist Heave Earthwind-human hunter, who took chances of being shot in his research of humans the way Steve Erwin risked getting eaten in his research of crocodiles. Meant to spoof the chances he took & the controversy it created.
I don't know if it's going to be so funny now. Seemed like he was "too funny" to be killed, & lived too charmed of a life & knew what he was doing too much.
Ironic how he "mucked w/" some of the deadlies animals in the world, & the one who sent him to his reward(stingray) was one not normally noted for killing people. Why'd he pull it so close to his chest?

There's only 1 Yogi Bear. They tried a 2nd time, & they made a Booboo!HeyeyeyhEY!

IF I thought ALL Australians were like Steve Irwin I would have divorced my husband and moved to Australia to get me one years ago!!!!

reply

I know I will miss Steve, even though I don't know him or ever met him. I still feel like I lost someone I know. He was so passionate about his animals, and his love for his family and friends was unmatchable. I hope his family knows there are people all over the world mourning his loss right now. They should feel proud having been a part of his life. I'm crying right now, and the screen is blurry. Steve, you were loved.

Why do today what can be put off until tomorrow?

reply

I still can't get over the fact that he is dead. I've watched a re run of his show on Animal Planet and there is so much footage of him that's been shown on the news over the last day but I can't get my head around the fact that this guy has died

reply

I didn't realize that many Australians resented Steve Irwin. It never occurred to me that people would think everyone in Australia was like Steve. Ignorance and stupidity are never hard to find. Those are the people that deserve the ire of the Aussies, not Steve Irwin. He was just being himself, full-on, 24x7. I wish I could have known him. In the coming days, regardless of your religious faith or the lack thereof, please turn your thoughts, your prayers, your letters of encouragement to his family, Terri, Bindi Sue, and Bob and to his friends and associates as they struggle with this devastating blow. The "legend" of Steve Irwin will be his enthusiasm and love for wildlife, I hope that lives on forever. And in honor of his legacy, try not to hate the stingray, you know Steve would not have wanted that.

reply

You will be missed Steve Irwin.

Same here.

I will never forget this guy. I've never been more hurt by the death of someone I didn't know in real life. Steve was a wonderful person with ability to influence millions of people and make them better. The world can never recognise his work enough. He was the one who brings faith in life to other people. This world won't be the same without him. I will so much miss his enthusiasm and positive approach to every single living creature. His ability to see beauty in everything was so catchy, I hope more people was like him and then the world would be much better place.

Rest In Peace Steve, you were the best and you will be in our hearts forever!
