Who else became very angry at Jack Nicholson?

Until I found out that the whole thing was not what it seemed, I was truly angry at Jack! And I felt so bad for Adam!! I sure do hope that's what they MEANT to do...

Anyone else?

Jack Nicholson was hard to like in this movie. Which is unusual.

What was even more surprising was how monotonous a performance he gave.

Of course, it's an Adam Sandler movie, so the material is limited in its depth.

No. I like Jack throughout the whole movie. Funniest character room. "Do you really want your girl friend hanging out with a guy who looks like he could satisfy a blue whale?"

This movie has a weird 'Zen student' vibe.

Jack Nicholson acts as annoyingly as a typical Zen teacher in those old Koans; heck, a Zen teacher cuts off a student's finger in one koan!

Sometimes you need someone to kick you around a bit or shake you up to awaken something important inside of you. Do you want to be a superficial douche all your life, or do you want to wake up to knowing your true self and learn harmony with the Universe?

You have to pay the price for the achievement - the lessons can be quite painful, but in the end, it's all going to be worth it. This is why in Zen koans, the teachers are often very harsh and shockingly merciless, because the 'prize' is worth all the tears and sweat.

Nicholson's character resembles a carefree Zen master, while Sandler's character resembles a typical, stressed-out, materialistic and pathetic wealth-chaser that's spiritually stuck and going nowhere without someone's help.

It doesn't matter if he has an 'anger problem' - all that matters, is that he will be liberated in the end from his self-created emotional prison. It's worth a little pain and frustration.

In this way, the movie seems like a Zen koan, and Nicholson is perfect as the role of the insensitive and downright insultingly cruel Zen teacher that knows the student will thank him in the end.

As a thought experiment:

Which would you rather be? A small-minded, emotionally frustrated and spiritually stuck, materialistic and pathetic, angry little man that lets others dictate who and what he should be..

..or a relaxed human being that knows himself, knows how to enjoy life, how to relax, takes things with humor and is truly alive?

At first he seemed a bit crazy and wasn't sure why he was tormenting him so much. Then when he started hitting on his girlfriend I thought he was actually a scumbag until you see the rest of the movie. Watching it a second time when you watch all of Jack's scenes you actually understand why he is doing what he is doing.

I felt like killing him several times during the film over the way he tortured Adam's character. The entire movie felt messed up and totally contrived, particularly at reveal during the cheesy ending.
