Why did they change this line???? (possible spoilers)

I saw this movie in the theaters, and owned a physical copy before I killed it from watching it too much.

Anyway, I'm watching it on Netflix and they changed this line which was always my favorite:

Chuck: Here's my phone number.
[Dave reads it]
Dave Buznik: "You're gonna die, bitch"?
Chuck: Oh, sorry. That's a letter I'm writing to Geraldo Rivera.

Chuck now says: Oh, sorry. That's a letter I'm writing to my father.

Seriously LAME!!!

I just watched it and you are right. I remember Geraldo Rivera too.

I bet it's either

1. he threatened to sue
2. someone who owned anger management had an interest in Geraldo Rivera and changed it. or
3. as no one knows who the hell Geraldo Rivera is they pulled a George Lucas on it to keep it more timeless.

Isn't Geraldo Rivera dead? Maybe that's why.

It's not the years, honey; it's the mileage.

Ha ha, no.

Maybe because of the comments he made around youth in hoodies... !

Wow, I had to see this for myself. I was just watching it on DVD, which does definitely have the Geraldo Rivera line, and while I was watching it I thought something was a little off. He makes a little bit of a pause before he actually says the name and when he does his head is lowered in such a way that you can't quite see his lips move. Still a funny line though.

But I just checked the version on Netflix, and damn, it's changed to "My father!" So weird!

The best I can figure is that maybe the line was intentionally left open to fit any name that they may have found to be the best joke. It's possible that "My father" was the original line and they ADR'd Geradlo's name later because it was funnier...and maybe somewhere down the line other names were tested to see what was funniest.

So maybe when Netflix acquired the license to stream the movie they accidentally got a different version, or even just a different audio track. I mean, it wouldn't be the first time Netflix screwed up an audio track, that's for sure. So there's that possibility. I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with anything specific to Geraldo Rivera or him suing or being offended, or anything like that.

Did you notice any other changes/different lines??

I'm from the UK so I don't know who Geraldo Rivera is.

Also at the end of the movie when Rudy Guliani shows up and the one girl asks "who is that?" The other originally answered Regis Philbin. The Netflix version edited it to say Bill Clinton.

They also changed the part where Dave is on the phone in a bathroom stall and Nancy walks in on him.

Nancy: "What are you doing in the ladies' room Dave?"
Dave: "Sorry, I just heard you guys got cleaner seats than us."
Nancy: "Not after I'm through with them"

The Netflix version replaced Nancy with Meatball.

My copy of the DVD has the altered line.
