Europeans share one bed????????

I can't remember how often I heard this stereotype in American movies, as well as "European girls don't shave their arm pits".

Where did that come from???

First of all Europe isn't a country, but it consists of many countries which are not united, which each have a different culture and different ways;
most countries are as different as night and day from each other (especially east, west our south Europe), so a line like "Europeans do this or that" are most of the time incorrect to begin with.
But since I heard these 2 lines frequently I'm wondering where they came from.
I can name 10 countries at the very least where I know for certain that girls shave their arm pits and every person has his own bed. I'm from western Europe and believe me we don't sleep in the same bed here, and young girls are hairless.

Anyone from a European country where men share a bed, and girls don't shave???

A bunch of old dirty Europeans shared the same bed in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory so you're either lying, or you're lying.

Anyway this topic sucks and is now about sandwiches:

All Americans are fat. Americans hate foreigners. Wild west gun laws is more important than free health care to Americans. Americans are either obnoxious atheists or religious extremists, there is no middle ground. See, there's a lot of similar things that can be said about Americans, which are not necessarily true.

You call us that and yet you can't use proper grammar and type like a mentally-handicapped 10-year old!

From Home Alone,
Buzz: Is it true French babes don't shave their pits?
The cousin: Some don't.

An honest question and an honest answer.

I certainly don't remember that line from the movie, but there is a little to little (sounds funny, now I think of it) context to it anyway. Being from the "old world" as SOME Americans call it, I can confirm that in Germany married couples and partners usually sleep in the same bed - but Americans do that too, don't they?

As far as armpits are concerned, I would say it differs from person to person. There probably are a few people who don't bother too much with shaving their armpits and I think the younger generations are more concerned about that than the older ones. However, one thing I really wonder about are the shouts all over internet-platforms like this one about "how stereotypical this is" and "what a cliché that is"...

Honestly, we all know, that there are different kind of people, ideas, habits in EVERY country and if we talk about cultural differences we can never cover all of them. So why not relax and enjoy each others cultures for what they are: sometimes funny, sometimes different, sometimes similar and sometimes very interesting but always changeable tendencies rather than something set in concrete.

One movie that comes to mind about the "southern European women have hairy legs" stereotype is Mrs. Doubtfire. When Doubtfire's (Robin William's) stocking slips down and shows his hairy leg on the bus, the bus driver says "I like that Mediterranean look in women, it's natural, just like the way God made us".
